My P4m 1.8 overclocks !!! @2.85ghz now

ok i am at 210x12=2520 right now with 1.66v

i tryed higher but it seemed like the cpu wanted more juice

before i go much higher i just wanted to ask:

What is a safe longterm voltage for the northwood ??
it seems that many people say 1.7v and that 1.75v is pushing it
i wonder if a P4m might be a little more brittle when it comes to voltages (it is the same process tho so i doubt it)

i'm getting 1810 3d2k3marks
my athlon system gave me 1818 at 208x10.5=2184 (which wasn't fully stable)

What cooling? I had my p4 2.0m at 3.1ghz / 1.85v (1.8true reading) on my koolance rig, if at worse it knocks 50% of its life it would still be running in 2 years time easily.

i got the thermalright sp-94 and a mad ass 4700rpm 92mm vantec fan
i've outfitted my new antec case with crazy vantec fans (the most powerfull i found anywhere) and a vantec fan speed adjuster
heat isn't an issue

ok i'm at 218x12=2620 now with 1.66v
i tryed 1.7v but it didn't let me get any higher
i'm kinda scared to go any higher so i guess i'll be staying with this for now

Wise choice.... 😉

i'm starting to doubt that i'll be able to beat my athlon 3dmark score
bahhh

2620 crashed half way through 3dmark

As I said previously to you, the 1.8 has a limit around 2.8ghz and no amount of vcore will help. as for snds, when the chip is this cheap its worth risk.

this particular chip seems to max out at 214x12 with 1.66 vcore
i tryed 215 and it was a no go

i know i can beat my 3dmark score if i mess with the abit gaming options in the bios or if i get a better sound card
but the cpu scores are much lower than my athlon cpu scores

one thing i noticed tho is the gaming benchmarks themselvs seem to make up for the lower cpu scores
i think this is prob due to either a better agp controller or just the increased mem bandwidth of the i875 chipset (maybe both)

you think i should just be happy with 214x12=2568mhz @1.66v ???

btw i can get the system to boot up to 226 with 1.66v but any higher is a no go even with 1.71v

ohhh well
guess if i want more i'll have to buy another cpu

either way this is a great oc for a 1.8 p4m

as far as snds goes i've experienced enough of the athlon version of that hehe
don't want to be a P4 killer too

woohoo i did it

215x12=2580mhz @1.7v

gave me my highest 3dmark2k3 score of 1838

now i'm just gonna stay at this and mess with various bios settings
then i might push my vid card a bit more

can anyone tell me which os usually gives higher 3dmark2k3 scores ??

winxp or win2k ??

1.8v youre talking weeks, not months or years. Pentium 4 sudden death syndrome 😉

Well I had a p4 1.4m at 2.58 / 1.8v for 6 months running folding@home 24/7 so I would say 'rubbish'. What you must remember is that you only hear about the ones that die, and its likely to be a small percentage, and of those how many do you think would have died anyway ?

Hmmm, I have a p4m 1.7ghz running 1.7ghz (142bus) in a MSI 648 Max MOBO. It seems like it should still have OC left in it. I am genna but the full juice throught it (1.7v) and see what happens.

Jon...

P.S. I also have a Celeron 1.5m (skt 478), anyone ever run these in a desktop mobo (I just got it)?

geez i just had a close call
i was lowering my voltages trying to get my temps down a bit (cause i was having stability issues) and somehow the bios corrupt

good thing i bought the backup bios

these new phoenix bios love to corrupt after so many clr-cmos attempts

i experienced this with my nforce board (even melted one)

What the hell?!?! Did I miss something?

i think he's trying to say that the athlon performs better in win2k due to the lack of sse and sse2 optimizations in the code
wheras Xp seems to optimized to take better advantage of the P4
and i think he means to say that 3dmark2k3 should run the same on either platform or that it runs just as good on either os

the system won't even turn on now

at first it was just giving me long 5 second beeps over and over
now it won't even do that

this is pretty much the same way my nf7-s went out on me

maybe i'm just an idiot

anyone have any ideas on how to make this thing work again ??

i couldn't have fryed anything, i kept my voltages within safe ranges and temps weren't too high

i was just in windows and the screen went black and it started beeping and that's how it all started

I was thinking the same thing.
