What do the categories mean?

Input Average: 13.0 Kbps
Output Average: 73.3 Kbps
Input 80th Percentile: 18.2 Kbps
Output 80th Percentile: 101.1 Kbps
Input 95th Percentile: 64.7 Kbps
Output 95th Percentile: 351.5 Kbps
Input 99th Percentile: 161.7 Kbps
Output 99th Percentile: 921.7 Kbps
Input Maximum: 580.8 Kbps
Output Maximum: 1,532.3 Kbps

I guess this is a hint that I use too much bandwidth?

I do not know what input output means here, may be the person means upload download.

About percentile.

As an example, if you have 100 people using bandwidth, the point of usage that 50 people did less than, and 50 people did more is considered the 50 percentile (usually it would be the average).

If someone is at the 99 percentile it means that out of the 100 people 98 used less than him and 1 person used more.

Input = uploading
Output = downloading

according to the flow diagram

The rest of the stuff from Packeteer is rather cryptic network lingo. :Q

If he also tells you your own usuage, it gives you an idea how much you use as compare to what is availble, or and others.

Otherwise, the content of your first post is rather meaningless.

I don't like to ask too much about the connection but I'm glad that it works. :)

I can't explain it via a post. Need whiteboard.

Essentially those measurements put your usage into a "total data moved vs. time" ranking. If you are in the 99th percentile you are 1 in a 100 of the top users of bandwidth over a given time range, usually one day...don't know your setup.

I don't know what your sample time is (1 minute? 5 minutes? 30 seconds?) to be of help. Most network planners look at the 80th percentile and up.

I get the feeling that I will get the explanation soon enough. :(

If they've got a packeteer, the reports are VERY granular.

Also, so you know, this kind of measurement is how most burstable billing is done so there is legitimate concern.

Pace your usage over time.

If we start from the 80th %ile - it means on average that for 20% of the time you were using you had the bandwidth stated.
The 95th %ile Means that for 5% of the time on average you were using that much,
The 99th %ile Means that for 1% of the time on average you were using that much.
I/O max is self explanatory.
Does show that your connection is 1.5Mbps/512Mbps and that you do a lot of p2p.

Hmm.. It us still meaningless without a frame of reference.

It needs a statment like in the last few weeks you were one week at the 99pt% of the general use, and in another week the 80pt%.

Or (as an example) you are all the time it the 99pt% of usuage.

If it was my email I would ask the sender whats on his mind.

Not sure of the speed and p2p is definitely restricted. There's several lan to lan vpn's but they don't use too much. (data) Then again I'm the only "casual" user and there's instruments running that do batch dumps, etc.

yeah, you should be glad that title didn't get started in OT, I'm sure the folks there would be all over owning you....

anyway, the reports are worthless unless they tell you what percentile you are in, I don't see that myself.

I wouldn't worry about it. Simply being sent reports doesn't mean anything. If they actually flat-out ask you to lower your bandwidth usage, then you can make some sort of change or at least negotiate with them. If it were me, I'd smile and delete those e-mails until one of them has more than statistics.
