If it's public, the campus police have the same authority as a local police force - the ticket will end up on your driving record if they decide to be difficult about it. If it's private, then they have no real leverage outside of towing the car, but the boat has sailed on that one.

Actually I wouldn't be so sure. I've gotten public university tickets while visiting friends, and I've torn them up without any issues on my record.

I said if they decide to be difficult about it. Odds are they'll be lazy and not report it to the DMV considering the number of parking tickets your average uni hands out in a day.

Still, you're playing the odds over a very small ticket, that you can probably talk your way out of especially since you aren't even a student there.

I got a parking ticket in 1987. I dont ever remember being in the town the ticket was from... could have been a sibling borrowing the car.. or whatever.. it was my car, my responsibility. Come to find out... that $6.00 parking ticket in 1987... well, the suspended my license for it somehwere between ticket and when I went to england... so according to them... my being in that fender bender... driving while suspended. Now... the cop at the accident ran BOTH our licenses at the time of the fender bender and mine came up clean. no outstanding tickets, no suspensions.. nothing....

Bottom line... I got hit with the ticket... drving while suspended and 13yrs interest.

$6.00 parking ticket cost me.... $1,035.00 and it will remain as a judgement against me on my credit report until 2012... 7yrs from the date I paid it.
