I have the other computer connected through a CAT 5 cable from a router which is hooked up to a cable connection. It has worked fine for a long time but last week, all of a sudden, the internet goes out on the other computer. I am not aware of any changes in the setup.

I have tried getting a new cable but that doesn't help.

Thanks.

Open a Command Prompt on the computer and type ipconfig /all. Make sure the computer has a valid IP address and DNS address information. If you don't have valid address information, then the computer is not communicating with the router. Try a different port on the router if you haven't done so already.

If you do have a valid IP address, in the same Command Prompt window, type ping www.google.com and see if you get a response. If not, try ping 209.85.171.99.

Report back with the results.

Thank you guys. I did ping www.google.com and get a response. The max ping was 55ms and the minimum was like around 45ms. But I still cannot connect to the internet.

You are able to ping google.com, but you can't connect to the internet? If you can ping from the system to an external internet site, but aren't able to pull up web-pages it sounds like it might be a software firewall issue. If you have some sort of 3rd party firewall disable it and try to connect. If not try to disable the microsoft firewall and see if that helps troubleshoot your issue.
