Just dug through my shoe boxes and found this little gem:

the original receipt from 1996 to the last pre-built computer I ever owned (Intel P133) before I started building my own system:

thought you guys might enjoy this one ;] total cost $2868 !! this receipt was so faded, had to use photoshop to bring up the prints.

This is why I hate buying high-end equipment. They'll be giving them away in cracker jack boxes in a few years... sigh.

His P1 probably lasted a good numbers of years before an upgrade was needed. I plan on keeping my i7 for another few generations.

Heck before this I was using a Barton 2500+ for like 6 years. I only upgraded at the very last minute I could heh :D

P133, that was state of the art in 1996. Rocking a 17" screen too, pretty nice at that time!

I'm laughing at the 2MB vram card though. Nowadays 512MB is hardly enough :p

You spent $2868 and went with economy shipping? You're a daring man!

I would've spent the extra $30 to $50 and purchased next day air or something similar.

You spent 3k and got a crappy ensoniq!! LOL. I had that POS myself. Gateway 2000 loved to use them back in the day. Stupid crap hardly ever recognized in the good ol DOS games. Even SB Generic didn't work half the time. Finally had to man up and get a Creative SB 16 and call it a day. That was a serious purchase while baggin' groceries :)

Actually on second thought. I guess it wasn't that bad of a price. I don't know why, but for my first computer since the Atari 800xl, my folks decided to go balls to the wall and get a P5-60 in May/June of '93. I think the Pentium had just come out. I'm pretty sure that system was like 2900, which was just insane. I've gone back and told me mom now how ridiculous that thing was for its time, and how much money they threw at it. A pentium 60 for Windows 3.11. Talk about stupid overkill.

$2868 can get me a system with a Dell U3011 guaranteed. Dang. That's some beefy stuff I could build. And most definitely a Radeon 6900 series or GTX580 or two.

Hahahah really nice. Keep this in some secret locker so it stays mint for the rest of humanity!

Remember my first Pentium 2 400MHz was like 3000CAD...in 1997...

For $3k now we have monsters!

If anyone who has ever bought computer parts....

Rule # 1 - Never bring out old receipts to look at besides needing for warranty
Rule # 2 - Never bring out old receipts to compare vs current technology and prices

Break any of those rules, you are asking for pain.

That's an awesome find!

Reminds me of what we paid for our P90 system in like 95 or 96.

I think it was something like
Pentium 90MHz
2MB RAM
700MB HDD
onboard video

and I'm pretty sure it was over $2k

Ugh, I feel your pain OP. I blew $8000 on a Thinkpad 760ED (with all accessories - docks, slim dock, monitor stand, KB, etc.) back in the day :S

yes it was a champ at the time, there wasn't any choice really it's either Intel P133 or P166. I don't recall there's any compatibles that could come close to Intel at that time. I also vaguely remember the P166 would have been something like $3300-3400/system. I just had to drew the line somewhere.

sorry about the pic, I scan it very high rez to keep for posterity ;]

But seeing this receipt really brought a smile and a little pain to me, remembering just how silly I was paying so much for something. With 3k I could probably upgrade several cycles now. that just goes to show a little skill and time can be worth a whole lot of money!

Its still a good system for parts. Power supply should be usable for HTPC build. Memory for some netbook. Sound card to upgrade over current mobo's build-in sound. Altec Lansing speakers are decent too. Should last another 10 years or so.

Can't see the image anymore. Imageshack surely is a pain these days

1.) the power supply probably have degraded badly by now and the efficiency in those things are probably worlds apart from current PSUs.
2.) The RAM is not compatible in any product currently in production
3.) I agree with the speakers but i doubt its even working anymore

Weren't some of the original P133's AT PSU's not ATX? Might not even be the right type to use on any new mobo's.

Buying a PC back then it is pretty much the same as buying an LCD monitor 5-10 years ago.
