Thats a sign of its nearcoming death ;) My mouse just died 20 minutes ago too! Now I'm back on my ballmouse. I read a post and someone said you can fix it by opening up the mouse and re-wiring the wire. But all in all, everyone I've known has had MS Explorers die on them. Yet, never head a single prob with Logitechs.

If you have an MS Intellimouse, call up MS and they will most likely replace it.

Mine didn't work too good on my old machine. I just reinstalled it on my new one and it works ok some of the time but acts wierd at the edge of the page and sometimes but not others. It's one of the older, not 33% better ones.

Get a mousepad.. that marketing ploy about them working on any surface was BS.. same thing happens on my bright desk.. the mousepad ended all problems..

no, mouse pads are too thick. Tape a peice of construction paper to your desk. You get some nice traction, a surface for the lazer to read and its not really thick

Get a hammer, corner the mouse, attack mouse with hammer. This will definitely calm the mouse down. You will have fun at the same time. :D

And if none of those solve your problem, head over to this thread:

Logitech iFeel Optical Mouseman $23 @ Pic N Save or Big Lots

My Kensington Optical Mouse was doing the jumping and shaking after about 4 months of usage :| and I just replaced it with this Logitech one. :D

Good luck.
