Hmmm where do I begin? as I seemany caught up in the upgrade trap...well I still run the Iwill 333R Mobo with 1 XP1700 OC @ 2.2GHz and see no need to upgrade.
I'm no Gamer and am stuck on dialup in the Country but until the 64Bit OS is refined I'll wait cause I have spent less on a seperate Intel Puter to do my MM.

Facts:
IDE vs SATA same
PCI-e vs AGP same
USB...updated card to Hi-Speed
Firewire400...Updated card to Firewire800
RAM...yes improved but no real time improvement seen

Sure if you do other than what I do get up off your wallet but I'ma waiting it out for :
DC Squares
64 bit OS to be refined
Software to catch up
maybe DDR2 to comealong
BTX PSU's and Mobo's ?

Don't forget though, the people caught in the upgrade trap, or even those that go out and buy the best $4000 system they can get every couple of years are fueling the high-end pc economy which drives down prices of last year's technology.

I usually completely replace my PC ever 2-3 years when I can put together a system that's 2-5x faster than my old one for $500 or less. But if everyone did that, AMD XP processors would still be $300 each and the budget people would still be using durons 🙂

Don't forget??? Hell i make a living off of those people with my competion being OEM (ie.Dell,Gateway) who drive my prices down :brokenheart:

It's probably been three years since I did a "major" upgrade (I never do replace an entire system at once, but this coming upgrade comes closest). This Wednesday (or Tuesday if FedEx decides to pity me and bring my X2 a day early) I'll be going from AXP1700+ to A64X2 4400+, along with new motherboard, RAM, video card, an additional hard disk, a DVD+/-RW, and a Gretag Macbeth Eye-One Display 2 thrown in for good measure. Oh, and not to forget the new UPS and Linksys router to replace the power-hungry and noisy 500MHz Linux-running Celeron that did the same job. 😉

There are several reasons why I "need" to get dual core now as opposed to a single core CPU now and upgrade to DC later, none of which involves gaming or a burning desire to stay on the bleeding edge (I wish the X2s had been out a while so I wouldn't have to be a guinea pig). Oh well, be glad you don't feel so compelled to spend too much money right now while the dual cores are overpriced. 😛

Good view ProviaFan...as there was a point in time (ie.K6-2) where we spent $1 per MHz so you're getting off easy... Personally I want the DC for Photoshop and other MM tasks 😉
