I shouldn't have bragged on its bulb.

It'll be interesting to see what the final tally of hours was....I'm betting it's around 15,000 on the original.

But it died right in the damned middle NCAA game yesterday.

Hope I get half that life out of a new bulb.

Ordered one today.

edit, also found the color wheel for about 87, shipped...did not order one, as mine is still fine....hope it lasts.

Bulb came today, replace it and cleaned the projector lens. The mirror itself wasn't dirty.....interesting, since I had the TV apart a few years ago because of some furniture cleaner my son (then about 2 1/2) sprayed on it...the mirror was very dusty then. But was perfect today.

Anyway, I love my TV again. Did not realize how dim the picture had gotten.

Oh, and the final tally on the hours for the original bulb was 18,538.

Holy crap that's a ton of hours. Did you consider cleaning the color wheel? They are prone to getting dirty which will cause dimness and color shift.

No cleaning the color wheel, and I'm glad I didn't waste my time......

Because the color wheel gave up tonight. Got one ordered, 87.45 shipped, with housing.

Sounds like a plane taking off inside the TV.

sounds like your tv is becoming an expensive money pit.

Be very careful when installing that color wheel as well, they are SUPER fragile don't even think of sneezing or looking at it wrong. I hate to think what might fail next. If the driver board or power supply goes you might as well cut your losses.

Good Luck tho!

It'll be here tomorrow, so I'll keep my fingers crossed while installing it. Figuratively, of course.

The TV still powers up and has a picture...for a little bit....but it sounds like a buzz saw inside there, so I have it unplugged until I get the wheel replaced.

Hopefully, this will be the end of the repairs.

Money pit? Pacfanweb spent $150 for a new bulb and color wheel after 18,000 hours of use on the first bulb. Most people wish for that kind of reliability.

I don't think is really that much reliabillity from a TV ...
Then again, that's one of the reasons why I prefer CRT ... (most tubes will last over a million hours)

Where can I get a 50"+ HDTV CRT? Oh, and I'd like to not have to reinforce my floor to support one, also.

Think about it.....my TV averaged 10hrs a day of "on" time for 6 years. That's a long, long time if it wasn't used as much.

I used to say the same thing, but my giant 34XBR800 just died after 7 years.

It's probably some IC's on the power supply and not the tube, but it's still dead...

you know 1 million hours is 114 years right and the CRT was not even invented 114 years ago right (will be 114 years in 2011).

Yeah, and I don't think there's one that's made it the the whole time, either. ;)
