My OLD Dinosaur

So I had an extra old pc laying around and decided to open it up and take it apart for practice my n00b pc skills(first time opening it up). So basically all im asking is should i throw it away or can i get like $50 out of it? here are the specs... it also has a CD-RW and DVD drive

Model: HP Pavilion a220n
Motherboard:Asus A7N8X
Processor:Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2.08Ghz
GPU:Butterfly NVIDIA Riva TNT2 Model 64
Ram:(x2) Samsung 256MB DDR 333 184 PINS PC2700U CL2.5 Memory - DDR Memory-PC2700U-25331-Z, PC2700U-25331-A1
PSU: Bestec ATX-250-12Z Rev.C7R 250W 20-Pin ATX Power Supply, HP P/N 5188-2623, Model: ATX-250-12Z C7R

It also has a CD-RW and DVD drive in it, but no hard drive (had a 120GB Ultra DM 5400 rpm, but took it out for security reasons? idk)

It's still fast enough to be a cheap Internet browsing machine or some kid's first computer. I'd keep it all together and see if you can get $50 for it.

I also would say Craigslist would be your best shot at getting any money for it, it's obviously not worth shipping it. Or maybe donate it to a senior center?

Who'd want to put an old dinosaur into a senior center? :hmm:

if your not like starving because of lack of money -> trash

IMHO modern web does quite need some cpu power to fully use it (like hd flash videos) and page load speed also heavly depends on it. (eg. Atom system page load times are way higher than a on a full blown PC)

Put that bad boy on ebay and someone wants to pick it up from my house for $65, awesome 😛

See? 😉

Never trash a working computer unless it's to old to run even Windows Xp. Donate it to some where that'll make good use out of it. You'd be surprised how many pet shelters, soup kitchens, elementary schools, small libraries, etc. will be delighted to take something like that.

I've got three P4 rigs, one 2.4, one 2.8, and one 2.8 @ 3.2. Not quite sure what to do with them. I'm using one at a friend's house (has Win7 on it, and 2GB DDR). One is sitting in my apt unused (has XP and 2GB DDR2), and another one I just threw together, has 1GB DDR and 865G onboard video, and XP. (Would have put an ATI Radeon 2600 Pro in it, and then upgraded it to 2GB DDR and Win7, but the darn case was defective, and the expansion slot where the AGP card goes didn't have threads on the screw hole, so I couldn't screw the card down.

Probably just give them away, don't really care to sell anything less than a dual-core these days to clients. And the low-end clients that would buy one of these, I don't really want as clients, if my current experiences are anything to go by. The "cheap" clients tend to be the worst PITAs. So I'd rather give them away, rather than be tech-support for a year, for $50.

yah i've got a few boxens downstairs they are decoys in case someone breaks in lol. too heavy to drag to the garbage bin.

my ole poweredge SC420 is part of that junk now.
