I have a 2005 Dell 2405FPW 24 inch monitor. For some reason I can’t change the refresh rate to 75 Hz anymore. The only options shown are 60 Hz. At a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. I have crossfire with 6800 series of cards. I have the latest drivers for everything. Any suggestions?

first off, that is a 60hz panel so that is as high as you can set it.

oh well... your monitor doesnt do more than 60hz, unless you run it at higher speeds than its designed to,
can you overclock a monitor?

I tried googling it RQ, but couldnt find any info on refresh hz, so not sure if its true or not.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2405fpw/en/about.htm

Dell support shows two different modes for 1024x768 in the table about one third down.

75 Hz is possible on LCD! I just set my Samsung to 75 Hz on low resolutions. 60 Hz available in native.

All I can think of is:
- Make sure the monitor is on before windows starts, so it will be properly detected instead of using windows pre-sets. My notebook doesn't properly detect the secondary monitor (using VGA) if it is on stand-by during start/wake-up, making it impossible to choose some resolutions supported by the monitor.
- You can try setting resolutions in windows or in your card driver software. Can you actually see two options for 1024x768?

posted a link to the site + monitor and you can find this:

56 Hz to 76 Hz, exception 1680 x 1200 & 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz only

60hz is just the default speed for your monitor at those settings.

You run Xfire with a resolution of 1024X768?

@Don Karnage

just noticed.... wtf.... CF 6870 > 10% faster than a 580 or something.

You play at 1024x768 resolution? Why? your screen can handle 1920x1200 going by spec sheet from Dell.

60hz is just the default speed for your monitor at those settings.
A single link DVI cable does not have the bandwidth to handle those last two connections at 75Hz.

Powerstrip may be able to force a connection above spec as long as the monitor doesn't hinder it.

Well, I had to do a clean install of win 7 because of another issue. After that, I could use a refresh rate of 75 at 1024 x 768 again. Don't know why it suddenly would only do 60. But, everything is fine now. By the way, when games are played, we do use 1920 x 1200.
