my OC'd computer takes forever to load apps (i.e. Starcraft 2!)

I have a core i7-930 @ 4.0GHz, and things use to load up REALLY quickly. Now they're taking forever to load! OS still loads quickly, as with Photoshop, but things on my mechanical drive (1TB WD Black 64MB) is taking it's sweet time now...

is this due to memory? or CPU? before I use to be the FIRST to finish starcraft in a multiplayer game, now I'm the last...

Loading times usually deal with hard drives. Try running HDTune to see your read speed and see if there are huge downspikes.

Yeah def. hard drive issues here.

I went from a Samsung F3 HDD to a Kingston ssd harddrive and my load times dropped by half.

either the HDD is dieing, is in desprate need of a defrag, or your just getting used to SSD and so any HDD is "slow". I've a WD black and vs my v'raptor and SSD, it is slow. The month I had to use a WD Green in place of the black was just painful.

I've always had a SSD and 2 black drives combo (Gen 2 Intel 160GB + 2x 1TB black 64MB sata 6) I just added a 3rd black 1.5TB drive not too long ago. In fact, 2 days ago, it was still mighty fast. It wasn't until then that I realized that something happened... my system has slowed down quite a bit... But then again, I did get a BSOD on my OC, and I've been messing with it to get it stable again. It clocked @ 3.83GHz for the longest time (21x183).

Perhaps the HDD is dying... I believe it's over a year old (just) but it might be under warranty still since it's a black drive?

If you're only basing this off SC2 load times, you have to remember their loading is really funky. It will stop loading and wait until others get to a certain point before continuing. Plus, the loading progression of anyone who's not you tends to be really inaccurate.

adding new hardware and seeing issues, last few times I have had that problem it was the power supply at it's limits. First one was age, the second one was dieing.

Not to mention your internet speeds play a role as well.

it was the HDD... .copied it onto my other black drive, changed the letter to the appropriate one for which SC2 was installed, and BAM! fast SC2 again! so now I'm rocking with my new 2TB black drive!

I've actually dealt with CPU-related SC2 loading time issues. For me, changing my clocks back to stock sped up loading times. It meant my OC'd settings were not stable. Upon doing a 48 hour Prime95 blend test it failed. Every other (shorter) test passed.

This was with a Phenom II x2 560 unlocked to 4 cores. I ended up dialing the speed back a bit on the OC and all was fine again!

How are loading times at stock settings?

it was the HDD... heh.. 'cause now i'm rocking a 2TB black drive! yes! They gave me a 2TB in place of my 1TB black!

oh yeah, everything loads fast again 🙂

before it would literally take like 5 minutes before sc2 would load. now it's back to 1-2 seconds (i'm talking about just "launching" the app)
