My Nintendo PC Mod

Hey everyone I started this mod over the weekend and it is shaping up really nicely so I thought I would post some pictures of my work so far. If you have any questions feel free to ask as this is a work in progress. I do plan on adding a slimline blu-ray drive and usb functionality to the front two gaming ports.

You, sir, are not composed of DNA, but of WIN.

Seems like airflow would be lacking, planning on keeping the cartridge door open all the time? Or raised up on a pedestal for the bottom vents? This has the added advantage of allowing people to pay the respect this device deserves, by kneeling before said pedestal.

The atom stays relatively cool, it hovers around 40C idle and 55 under full load. This is overclocked to 2.1 GHZ and my memory is running at 800mhz.

Awesome job!

You might want to add something like this to your project:

nintendo retro gamepad

Maybe you could modify the front controller ports by hollowing out the original nintendo parts and put some USB in there?

What I'm doing is following this guide here: http://www.zero-soft.com/HW/USB_NES_old/

What this will allow me to do is be able to plug in the classic controller and then use them over usb. That way I don't remove any of the functionality of the ports.

Did you get that ion chipset with the 9300gpu? That would be so cool to have with the nintendo controller and playing some pretty recent pc games with the 9300gpu. Looks great.

Yeah this is the Zotac ION A-U, has all the power I need in a computer. I'm hopefully getting a slimline blu ray drive in the near future that I plan on mounting inside the case.

If I take off the fan on top of the heatsink then it should, the slot loading drive is only 13mm thick. I will have to redo the fan layout but I will get it to work and update with pictures along the way.

Depending on how much clearance you need, would it be possible to cut the heatsink fins down a bit? This way you could keep the fan on.

I think that is an option but I hope it doesn't come to that. As long as where the CD ejects can fit through the door is all I'm concerned about.
