Since nobody else seems to be talking about this, I'll start. ;)

I ordered one of these the other day. My deliveryman must be psychic, because I went home for lunch today and 10 minutes after I got there the doorbell rang and he gave me my camera. I was tempted just to stay home and play with it, but the battery wasn't charged. Now I have to wait until after work. I'm thinking of driving down to Shawnee National Forest to go camping this weekend just to test it out. If I do then pictures for everyone!

Has anyone else considered taking the plunge and getting one of these?

Edit: I ended up at Yellow River State Forest in Iowa this weekend. I planned on filling up my storage card (~350 pictures) but only ended up with 88 pictures because of the rain. The camera spent most of the hike wrapped in a plastic sack in my pack.

All of the pictures I took exceeded the 2MB limit at pics.bbzzdd.com so I had to reduce the size. Some are shrunk to 1/16 the original size (labeled with _small) and some are cropped sections of the full size picture (labeled _cropped)

DSC_0009_small.jpg - [199 KB] Very grey picture of the trail.
DSC_0011_small.jpg - [175 KB] Another of the trail.
DSC_0015_small.jpg - [182 KB] Some mossy rocks.
DSC_0015_cropped.jpg - [1.01 MB] Close up of the mossy rocks
DSC_0017_small.jpg - [121 KB] Fungus growth on a mossy log.
DSC_0017_cropped.jpg - [728 KB] Close up of said growth.
DSC_0021_small.jpg - [138 KB] Different angle of said growth.
DSC_0021_cropped.jpg - [1.51 MB] Close of of said different angle.
DSC_0034_small.jpg - [166 KB] Double fungs growth on another mossy log.
DSC_0034_cropped.jpg - [1.72 MB] Close up of growth.
DSC_0036_small.jpg - [188 KB] Small water pond.
DSC_0036_cropped.jpg - [1.77 MB] Close up of the reflections in the water.
DSC_0060_small.jpg - [166 KB] Picture of the trail.
DSC_0067_small.jpg - [491 KB] View of Paint Creek from the top of the hill.
DSC_0080_small.jpg - [126 KB] Picture of me (the only one I managed to get)
DSC_0087_small.jpg - [104 KB] Picture of a branch
DSC_0087_cropped.jpg - [527 KB] Close up of the branch

I thought I'd share a few gross-out pics of the blister on my toe. You have been warned.

can't you take a test shot of something? :D Serious, because dpreview.com doesn't have a sample pic.

Dude, the D70 is sweet, but I don't like the Plastic body. I've got the D100 and it a beefy beast! Yeah, it's heavy 'cause it's an all metal body, but It feels solid and I like that. But the D70 has some nice features that the D100 dosen't as you would expect given that time and technology move along. What kind of optics do you have?

I've thought about getting a digital SLR camera for some time, but they're still too expensive for my $9/hr student technician budget. Maybe in the summer when I can work full time I will buy one.

Have fun with it! :)

I'm just jumping in to the whole SLR thing, to the only glass I own is the kit lense, which is a decent lense from what I've heard.

I've only borrowed cameras from family in the past so I'll have to buy my own stuff.

I'll just stick with my two nikon f5s for now. Doesn't make sense for me since I don't take pictures any more.

Still waiting for the low-light/high ISO noise comparisons between the D70 and 10D/300D.

CMOS still pwns IMO.

Yeah, I've read about that too. I figure that that I don't depend on this camera to make a living and that it is an excelent camera and I can live with it once in a while. I can check a picture and if it comes out poorly I can take another. No big loss.

that and the morie issue can be fixed in photoshop in under 2 min and give nikon a month and i bet we see a firmware upgrade to fix it all

samples please, i've been debating the cam =D

Alright, I posted some pics. It was dark when I got home so I just took a couple of my room. I'll probably get up early and take some tomorrow morning too.

Hopefully I can take a bunch this weekend.

I just checked the camera settings and they are at normal, so no. I'll make sure to read the manual before I take any more pictures. :p

Edit: they are on the largest setting, but the compression is at normal (8:1) instead of fine (4:1). I think I'll start taking the pictures in raw format and saving them in photoshop.
