So I bought sim city on the iphone for my gf because she loved the PC game and I figured she'd love this version as well. When I tried to sync her jailbroken/unlocked 1st gen iphone, itunes said sim city could not install because it is an older version OS. She was on 2.1 so I figured I'd just use quickpwn 2.2 to update her os to 2.2 and I'd be able to install Sim City. Since I was unaware that there was an issue with quickpwn and DFU mode on late 2008 Macbooks, the process froze during at Quickpwn loading files.
After some googling, i realized my mac was the problem so I turned on my desktop PC and tried the same process with my PC. It worked this time but when I plugged in her T-Mobile sim, it went back to the pre-activation screen only allowing emergency calls. I can get into the homescreen wiht my ATT iphone 3G sim and Cydia and installer are all there but it just won't work with T-Mobile sim anymore. I then restored to 2.1 firmware from iphone update folder and tried to jailbreak/unlock with the 2.1 unlock custom IPSW that I used last time successfully. . . still no luck.
Desperate, I tried pwnage tool on my Mac and ran into the DFU mode blockage thanks to the 10.5.6 update so I downloaded the autoscript to fix that, got into DFU mode and still an error occurred as I tried to restore to the custom 2.2 fw on that pwnage tool created. I started all this 10 PM PST, it's now almost 2:30. If anyone has any idea how to fix this mess i've created, i'd greatly appreciate it. I've lost all her contacts and schedule by now, they're backed up on my PC but I can't restore those backups unless i have a 2.2 firmware because that's the fw that was used when it was first backed up prior to quickpwn. If I can't fix the problem right now, I think her only option to recover that backup is to buy an iphone 3g and restore the data on to it. am i wrong here?

Connect the iPhone to a Windows machine.

Restore it to the latest firmware (2.2)

QuickPWN the phone.

Restore the backups.

Except for doing that way the phone will not be unlocked. So tmobile sim won't work. The unlock for 2.2 won't be released until newyears eve.

This is an iPhone 2G, the unlock was released over a year ago.

Thanks a lot Virge, I thought i did that last night but i figured, what the hell, might as well try again and it worked, I couldn't restore to the backup of all the contacts and texts but at least the phone is unlocked and usable again. Thanks!
