I had no idea how pretigious Cornell is when compared to other colleges. Supossedly its a big deal. One year is about $60,000 and she is almost going on a full scholarship. On her end she has to pay about $16,000 per year.

Her major is environmental. When I gratuated from highschool I went to community college. :confused_old:

Congrats! :)

Not quite Harvard/Yale reputation-wise but Cornell is on that level.

Them Ivy Leagues are always a big deal.

A woman who had the same piano teacher as I 16+ years ago went there(Since the teacher was based in Bethesda, which is a high income area around DC. I resided in a middle class zip code then and got that teacher through my class piano teacher). She is now is Auburn, Alabama as an Internal Medicine resident.

Winter at Cornell = cold, dark, and lonely. Cornell has the highest suicide rate for a reason.

Thanks. My sister went to Harvard for night school. She graduated from Rutgers with a degree in Biology. Her girlfriend at the time could talk 4 languages. Crazy.

She is now a computer programmer. Makes $130k a year, and gets to work mostly from home. And, in a field that has so few females.

Had no idea.

Don't lose any sleep over it. ;)

Cornell gorge suicides

"Despite the gorge suicides, Cornell does not have an above-average suicide rate compared to other colleges. The misperception of a high suicide rate has been attributed by some to the public nature of suicides in the gorges."

~ ripped from Wiki

Par usual the truth isn't nearly so much "fun".

They installed safety net to catch people because so many people were jumping off to their death. That alone should tell you something.

I thought about applying to Cornell back in the 90s. People warned me about the cold dark winters there and the depression/suicide. So I applied to Princeton and University of Pennsylvania instead. I was rejected at Princeton but was accepted at UPenn Wharton business school.

No worries, her Tesla will intentionally drive her into a construction barrier or emergency vehicle long before she can do anything to herself.
Weird comment but ok.

Wait, coming from an a-hole who, on Christmas no less, tells a guy that the IVY league college she was accepted to, has a high suicide rate? I mean you didn't even congratulate him/her or say anything nice.

You're a morbid inconsiderate idiot.

I'm angry because I pointed out what an a-hole you are? LOL, you really think highly of yourself. Quit deflecting, the point is you have no manners and it's pretty awesome she got in to Cornell. Yet you point out suicide rates. Something wrong with you.

He's saying you're a Donnie Downer and you keep digging yourself into another hole proving his point.
Enough people have shown displeasure at my Cornell is known for cold winter and suicide statement to convince me my comment might have been inappropriate. To the OP, I'm sorry if my statement about Cornell offended you. That wasn't my intention as I thought I was just repeating common myth about Cornell.

Ithaca (where Cornell is) is a beautiful place, one of my kids went there. When Cornell was founded that location was specifically chosen for it's beauty. Cornell is a big school. It is cold and snowy in the winter-no big surprise for the Finger Lakes region.

Congrats to your niece for her acceptance to a great Ivy League school in a great location.

Yeah, that they care more about suicides than other places that wouldn't bother to put in protections.

Great place, I work there. Tell her to get Mexican from Zocalo's, pizza from Franco's first, Pat's second (though anywhere is likely better than anywhere she's had unless she's coming from NYC), and Indian from Mehak. Expect to pay through the nose for housing. Way, way more than you're thinking. Take your number and double it.
