ABIT nVidia chipset motherboard (hopefully BTX)
Athlon X2 skt M2 (cheapest one that I could find)
2Gb of DDR2-1000 memory (or anything that can run 1:1)
Raid 5 4x120Gb HDD (should it become available)
cheapest nVidia 7xxx video card (not really a gamer)
Nice, aluminum, Cooler Master BTX case

Considering the possible cost of this setup, around $900 USD, I'd say I have plenty of time for mid-06, no? :D

Abit?
Why not DDR3? Only 2 GB? How 'bout 4 GB.
socket M2 X2 sounds nice :)
Haha...i'd say more like 4x500 GB at least :)
I'll take the R520 next round ;)
BTX? Possibly :p
You forgot the Blu-Ray & HD-DVD burner though :D

Well! Those are certainly desireable things... BUT... I'm trying to keep it real. I mean, its my "realistic-economicaly-speaking" wish list... not the "I-can-spend-2ks-on-a-computer" one.

Yeah, I like ABIT a lot. Worked with many of their mobos and find them to be very good quality.

DDR3? That's to be introduced Q4'06 (read christmas) at best. Also, this list is based on the "buy cheap things" that where 6 months before best of the best. Its not (always) wise to buy bleeding edge stuff.- at least in my book.

My post was a sardonic reference to yours ;)

If there's one thing you should learn about hardware, it's that you cannot wisely plan more than a month in advance IMO :p

Go ABIT for reorganizing after that financial fiasco. I'm still running my good ole NF7-S Rev. 2 (typing on it now) with XP 2700+ - now that's a fine motherboard :)

Reports say ABIT is not under financial trouble at all, and they are just waiting for the TAIPEX to drop the aleged financial problems.

Anand reports they even got a new pal! (read: fresh money for more ABIT stuff)

I find them *all* of their products of superior quality to many other brands. Look at the transistors they use.

My Abit IC7 i875 mobo was one of the best...292fsb off of a 200fsb board....

However reports that they didn't follow the Nvidia reference and AMD guidlines for there sckt 939 boards pissed me off...If ppl remember it was them and Epox that were rumored to possibly not be compatable to venice as well as dual core chips due to cutting corners I believe in power type issues....

I like many remember the last thing...You are only as good as your last product....plus their sckt 939 AMD boards suck arse for ocing, IMHO...
