First things first, the Patriots kick ASS! :D

Second, I am down to either a....

96 Mustang GT

or

2000 Grand Am GT

I test drove both today. Here is what happened.

I get in the Stang, fire it up, and about shiet myself. It is LOUD. Louder than my truck. Check engine light is on, oh dear. Quick spin around the 'hood, and I find out when I punch it, it pushes you back in the seat with a Nascar-esque brWAHHHHHHHHH, but not really impressive for a V8. Handles like a raped ape. I found myself doing 95+ without even noticing it.

Get in the Grand Am. The dashboard looks like a frickin x-mas tree when its on. I take it out on the road.... holy moses. That is one FAST sumbitch. It was every bit as fast as the Stang, acceleration was awe inspiring for a 6 banger. (Was something wrong with the Stang?) Handles great. Traction control, the whole enchilada.

The Stang would be cheaper than the Grand Am. Which one do I get? The sporty gas guzzling Tim Allen AR AR ARRRR Stang, or the Hoochie mamma pimpin' styling and profiling Grand Am?

RossMan- How you've changed!!!

As far as this thread... Consider the third alternative- Look for another choice.

Aren't you the least bit concerned about buying a car that was probably abused it's whole life? I know I would be. Between those two, I take the one that's cheapest and easiest to repair. <hint> Not the FWD.

Are you gonna pull out the new system you just put in your truck and put it in your car?

Dunno Hzl. I'm going to try and see if the dealer will give me a markup on the truck for the system. I have over $2500 in the system alone. ~Shrugs~

If I get a bug up my butt I'll send it to ya, along with the Clie software. :D (Inside joke. I still have no idea where to get that software)

The Stang was ok, but GOLLY did I get a hard on for that Grand Am. Especially for $12k and 21,000 miles.

I'm looking to spend around $12k max.

For 12k you can get a damn nice '99 or '00 Ford Contour SVT...so long as you don't mind driving a 5 speed :)

The Grand Am has tons of torque, but did you take it on the highway? Its gutless. Its great for city driving though. The 3.4L V6 (if thats the engine you had) has tons of torque in the low end which is a good thing. But on the highway it falls flat. The car feels fast with all that torque. It looks nice too. My buddy has a 2000 Grand Am SE with a body kit. Looks sick. Not ricey but real nice. He's the only guy in Toronto to have a body kit on a Grand Am.

that mustang engine SUCKS
first 4.6 they tossed in there and it was worse than the 5.0 in the 95s.

But i'd definitely get it over the grand am gt

No offense but it seems crazy to me that you have pared your potential choices down to two cars, one of which appears to have mechanical problems. IMO neither is a particularly inspired choice, and the world is full of cars. I would definitely look at some other options before settling on either of these, but I guess if you really like the GA, there is merit to that as a choice.

The stang sounds like the catalytic converters are pulled off. The check engine lgiht will be on if you rtun the car without the oxygen sensors, and the car will be real loud with aftermarket exhaust systems that bypass the Oxygen sensors and cats. I'm betting that the current owner has modified the exhaust. 96 was a slow year for the GT, though.

My friend is looknig at buying a supercharged 95 cobra for $13,500. It's not THAT much more than $12k, and the car puts 410hp to the ground. A stock '96 GT is around 215hp.

If I were you, I'd look at trying to get a 95 msutang, as they had the 5.0 in them instead of the 4.6. The 4.6 wasn't a very quick motor until 99. 96-98 are fairly slow.

Was the mustang an auto?

I'd do what notfred said but out of those two unless the stang is an auto I'd get the stang. If it was an auto then I wouldn't get either :).
