Is that really yours? Looks rather, well, horrific, but that V8 is impressive as heck.

Yes its mine, and its not really a pos. it over 20 years old and not a specl of rust, or rust hole on or under it. Granted right now she is not prettty, but wait till next tax time and I get the body redone.
But far away froma POS, I get 25mpg highway with it, the oem V6 4.3 got 17, and Im over 350 horses.

Its funny though, you put up a thread to show off your ride, you like and love, and all others care to do is shit on you. I wonder how many other v8 corvette L98 Powered Astros Chevy made? HUM, they didnt make a sigle one, and to find this in this condition after 20 years with no rust, paint is sorta still there, and hauls massive ass, and gets 25mpg if I can keep my foot out of it, is more then most vans, trucks, and cars of today get, is impressive in its own right for what it is as a whole. I needed a van to get me back and forth to my doctor appointments, and Id gladly drive this then a mazda, ford, or other barnd mini van, for I dont know how many of them will do 0-6 in under 8 seconds, have dual exhaust, and rumble like mine does. I get complements and holy shit no way thats got a v8, and here I share one of my loves I can still sorta enjoy, and anandtech shine brightly as usual :p

Shouldve known better to just quit being a member here other then in the HD and FT/FS section

Ah. Don't take it so personally. Some people here are gung ho about their choices in vehicles and consider everything else as crap. I mean, I appreciate the mods in your van. I have to admit that it's also not my cup of tea but it's certainly impressive.
But you should record your times. I'm sure its much faster than 8s doing a 0-60.

Actually it's a really solid van, extremely reliable and great to drive, my parents owned 2 back in the 90s and they were fantastic. Ugly yes, but great.

I don't think funboy qualifies as "younger" though I think he's younger than me :)

I'm glad it's still working well for ya, OP.

My parents had a '99. It was a very good van, and the 4.3 is a strong motor. We took a lot of long-distance trips with it hauling a trailer weighing several thousand pounds. Never had an ounce of trouble with it.

We had a Safari (GMC version of the Astro) and it was a good van. Tons of room for the whole family plus all our stuff. We had close to 300k on it when we got rid of it, and it was still running well when we sold it.

what's the walmart slipper picture about, that like a $100 bill in the lip of a deep dish on an exotic shot?

:)

I like the looks of that van though...it's got a nice stance.

I still see soooo many Astro/Safari's out there. Solid van. Not sure it would be my first choice of housing to drop an 8 into....but I've seen stranger projects.

Raced it yet?

aahhh, now the chop top thing makes sense! i had a 1990 with the 4.3 in it, loved that truck. i refused to call it a minivan, since the oem manual classified it as a "truck" lol. i always told my ex wife i was gonna drop a 350 in it, but she siezed the engine and forced a sell instead. tub that ass end, put a killer set of tires on it and go on with it! looks like a fun project lol.

HAHA. Cool.
I always wanted to v8 the s10 when I had it. The 4.3 is a 5.7, just missing 2 cylinders, so all of the motor mounts would have worked out.

You can probably idle your way to about 35 mph, lol

These GM Made vans last and they serve a purpose although mine doesnt get 25mpg, more like 19-20mpg. Stupid 305.

Nice van though.
