My newly built computer wont boot

I just threw in my video card (last part I was waiting for) today. I pressed the power button and...nothing. The fans inside come on (case, CPU, video card), but nothing else happens. No beeps from the speaker, no noise from the HD or CD-ROM drive and NO video. I've tested the monitor I'm using on the laptop I'm using right now, so I know a faulty monitor is out of the question. Also, the numlock on my keyboard lights up, as does my optical mouse.

I checked to make sure the CPU, GPU and memory are all seated correctly and that all the cables are connected properly. What's going on?

A64 3200+
Asus A8N-E
2x512 Corsair
MSI X800XL
74gb Raptor

Another weird thing I forgot to mention is that I'm unable to turn the computer off using the power switch (I've tried pressing it once, holding it down etc)...I have to use the kill switch on the power supply to turn it off :\

Be really sure the motherboard isn't shorting: place the system on a phonebook or something similar and then try to boot it. If it works then, the problem is inside the case.

Also, triple check that the CPU is seated correctly, and the heatsink too. Last time I build a system, this happened, and it turned out the cpu wasn't quite right.

Third: make sure all the power need is going to the motherboard, including the 4-pin +12V connector that get inserted near the CPU.

Did you check if the video card is seated correctly, since that's what you plug the monitor into?

I will as much as I can; it's a bit "hindered" right now. By hindered, I mean I have a temporary X800XL (which may turn out to be more than enough video card) while my 7800GTX gets shipped from Dell and a 17" CRT while I wait for my 2005fpw.

I'm installing XP 64 as we speak. I have this feeling I'm going to go to 32bit shortly thereafter though.

Hindered by an X800XL? Wow. I wish I could consider that hindering- I think its pretty darn good!

That 7800GTX will treat you nice tho.

I had the same problem to when I built my second PC. I thought if you used a Celeron, you didn't need the 4 pin jack lol. The other build ended up being the house wiring. Turns out 15 year old mobile home kitchens just don't have as much power :laugh:

Lol I agree. I'm running a GeForce 4 MX 420 4x and a 440 8x. I'll take your X800XL when you're done with it lol.
