My new wireless N router and adapter are slow...

I just installed a new netgear rangemax router and a rangemax wireless adapter on my desktop (both are N). I have a 10mbps service, and it works fine on my laptop. I get the full 10mbps, but on my desktop im maxing out at about 3mbps according to speedtests.

Also, the netgear program says im connected at 54mbps... shouldn't it be at 108mbps? How can i make sure my desktop is using N instead of B or G? Should I use the router install disc on the desktop like I did with the laptop (i already used the adapter install disc)?

Thanks in advance for the help

In the routers web interface, there will be a setting to only allow "n". It should be under the wireless settings.
