i have had a hard time getting the motivation to lose weight, so i devised a plan yesterday in a moment of genious: an imaginary wedding weight loss ultimatum!

the wedding is scheduled for july 6. by that time, i need to lose at least 30 pounds and bulk up as much as possible.

tbh i havent been this excited about getting fit in a long time! already am able to eat less and started using the treadmill yesterday. will start lifting weights next week.

i plan to keep track of my progress through the next 4 months.

You're eventually going to find out that you're lying to yourself and that's going to destroy your relationship.

Let me be the first to congratulate you, Old Chap. Well done!
I'll be the first to ask for pics of the fiancee as well.

ok, so not as big a fatty as I thought but still quite the porkly gentleman.

let me give you the only advice you'll ever need (and the only advice that is true).

Carbs are the enemy.
take in less calories than you burn up and you will lose weight.

I think I'll go order a family size pizza now, this thread made me hungry and my genes are great so I will never gain an ounce :awe:

I don't think this is a good strategy. Why do you need imaginary reasons to motivate you to lose weight? The threat of heart disease, unchecked cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and premature death are all very real reasons to lose weight. I think you're setting yourself up for failure because when the going gets tough, you'll think to yourself, "Fuck this. I quit. The wedding isn't even real anyway."

Lose the weight because you want to, and for the quality of life and health benefits you'll reap.

hey, whatever works for you! But losing weight and bulking up usually don't go hand in hand.

I think the reason why losing weight for a wedding works well is because of the cost associated and the permanence of pictures. I didn't need to lose any weight, but my fiance felt the need. Spending all the money on the reception and photographers/videographers convinced her to get her workouts in high gear. She went from 130 --> 120 starting 1 month before the wedding.

If you want this to succeed, find a girl that you will listen to nag you constantly about your diet and gut. That'll make it feel more real.

I'm for whatever works, but your mind has a way of reverting back to old engrained habits, especially when it knows it's being fooled to get it to do something new. Given your time frame, you can put something real on the line. It'll be the summer so set a date to go to beach and parade around with just shorts on. Or if you live in area with no beaches, head to some pool or water park.
