My new way of celebrating Christmas: Wrecking my car (again)

So I'm driving to work today. Doing ~55 mph, actually slower than I normally drive. On a country road, no painted lines, just bare asphalt. Come up over the top of a hill, there's a car headed my way, almost completely in my lane. I swerved to the right, went almost entirely off the road, came back on with no control whatsoever & slid across the road into a stump. Other driver just kept on driving. I got out of my car, & ran out in the middle of the road, but they didn't stop. Called my parents, towed my car back up to my house. This time the bumper is history, I think, as well as some damage to the hood & left front quarter panel. It won't start, either, though I'm not sure why.

So, once again, I'm without a car. Sarah will be here in three days, & I have no transportation. I don't have the money to get it fixed right now, and even if I DID manage to fix it before she came she wouldn't want to ride anywhere with me. Not that I can blame her.

Right now I just want to find a very deep, dark hole & bury myself in it.

:(

Whew, that's really terrible, two wrecks already. What is this doing to your insurance? :(

My insurance doesn't know anything about either of these.

The one last month was covered entirely by the other party's insurance. This one there's nothing to report, really. I have no evidence that there WAS another car, all I have is a picture of a gray, late 80's american sedan... One of the ones with a star in the grill, which I think is a Dodge... But I dunno.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that Viper GTS. You might as well try and take it up with your insurance company- what's the worst that can happen? They'll laugh at you? I say go for it.

Just remember, Sarah is coming to see you, not your car. I know your disappointed, and it's terrible you had another accident, but just try to relax and enjoy your time with her. The car will wait for you. :)

wow, sorry to hear that viper.
You must be the unluckiest person ever.
I have driven over 100,000 miles in the past 5 years with no accidents whatsoever (21 years old).

Hello,

I feel ya man. I thought my car's life was going to be over last night as well. I came home from my girlfriends house doing about 15 miles an hour on a very tight corner. Guard rails on left and the right of the car. i loose control of the car and do a 180 in the middle of the road. The back of by car scraped the guard rail a little. i drive alittle Saturn so if I would have bounced of the Guard rail into the one in front of me I would have probably totalled my car.

Better be safe then Sorry.

Me and my mom were hit by a car that ran off and had no license plates, luckily we got the insurance back, we were lucky we were in a volvo since he like T-boned us... Just try persuading the insurance company!

<< and even if I DID manage to fix it before she came she wouldn't want to ride anywhere with me. Not that I can blame her. >>

like GF said... it's not your ride she's interested in (at least, not that ride) ;)

Relax and just make sure you're the best DEFENSIVE driver you can be, everytime!

IBhacknU...

The car was the one way I could guarantee our privacy. Much of our plans for the week hinged on being able to go places without having to be ferried everywhere. We'd planned on going shopping, driving to the coast, going out to dinner & breakfast, etc. Now anything we do we'll have to have transportation from someone else.

As for the defensive driving...

A lot could be said for me needing to improve in that area. While none of this could be directly attributed to excessive speed, it could definitely be argued that it might have been prevented had I been going slower.

It's a little late now, though.

was the car you messed up a viper?

Yes. I disguise it like an '89 Accord so I get fewer tickets. ;)

No, I'm only 18. No Viper yet.

I thought you had to eat the cost of your last accident? And unless you have full coverage don't even bother going to your insurance company.

The last one their insurance company called me. I never had to give a statement, or anything, but they sent me a $577 check for the damage. This one I WILL end up eating, there's no way around it. I don't have full coverage, it's not worth it on a car that's only worth ~$2500 or so.

<< It won't start, either, though I'm not sure why. >>

Kind of sucks then. I do feel your pain. If you get it running, you can still take her out and about (while the body damage may not look pretty, she'll still ride in the car.) Figure out why it won't start. Did you damage something underneath the car? Did it hit really hard (and possibly jar something loose).

When you say it won't start, is the engine cranking over... or no electical what-so-ever?

It turns over, but doesn't start. It may be something as simple as it being flooded, but I didn't have the time to give it more attention. I'm leaking fluid from somewhere, but again, I didn't take the time to find out where.

Even if it is driveable, my mom still won't let her ride with me. She's convinced I'll kill her, & frankly I'm not so confident in myself either.

Damn sorry to hear it Viper. How about using taxis, or, if you've got a bit of money saved, a limo for a night. I understand this really messes up your plans, but sometimes the best results can come from what wasn't planned, than what was.

Good luck.

Damn Viper, that sucks :( I thought I had bad luck, at least my dings and dents didn't leave my vehicle out of commission :(

At least be happy that you still have all your bits 'n pieces.

I feel for ya Viper. I know that you wanna spend time alone with Sarah, but you can at least make the most of the time that you do have together and I am sure you will have fun no matter what you do.

I'm sorry Viper. I really don't think Sarah will mind when it comes to the car. I'm sure she understands this sort of thing happens from time to time. Have fun with her!!! Oh, I got the CD you sent. Thanks a bunch.

I'll let you know how everything goes...talk to you soon.:)

as was already eluded to:

things happen for a reason. Maybe there was a reason why it's best you two don't go out driving this weekend? That's the best I can come up with. Just promise us you won't sign her up on the forums, and spend your time here.
