Any ideas? I am readiing motherboard compatiblity thread, just saw after I posted.

Both cards work in bios, dos and linux, but after windows shows its loading, black screen.

Is there some kind of patch or download from microsoft that is needed to get cards to work.

I was thinking maybe its my older motherboard.. pci-e 1.1 versus new 2.0
or maybe hand off hdcp issue.

Are you sure you have proper drivers...?

Did you remove old NVidia drivers before new cards' installation...?

Or... old ATI drivers...? ;)

Thanks for replies!

Have tested further, both my new pci-e 2.0 cards work fine with linux, work fine with dos, but when you load windows, black screen.

I have tested on:

MSI K8NGM2-FID XP SP2, Muppy Linux
Asus A8N-SLI Premium XP SP1, Muppy Linux
Asus A8R-32 MVP XP SP1, Muppy Linux

while early posts linnk this to it pci-e 1.0 or 1.0a compatibility issue.. if card works fine in DOS, for your bios and and in linux.. it seems this might be nvidia/windows related.

I am returning my EVGA 8800 GS and MSI 8600 GT as a result.. no time to deal with black screens caused by DRM or whatever.

Could not get back into windows first few tries with various boards.. and I got this message on all when I got back in

"One of the files containing the system registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful." Anyone know how windows interaction with new Geforce Pci-e 2.0 hdcp capable cards could have generated same message on three different pcs?

I removed drivers prior to installing on Asus A8R 32 MVP, but did not do so on others since usually I am prompted to install and that seems to work ok., not changing drivers, just cards, but open to other idea on this, black screen.. not a good screen.

Well, I decided to try again.. brand new fresh install of windows xp on my system.. and..

I still get the black screen for windows.

GRRRRR

without any drivers and just normal install.. you can see card all the way up until the end of the install. then.. blackness right after windows logo appears prior to going into login or desktop mode.. so no chance to load any drivers.

As a side note.. I tested all my old cards with current systems these new cards would not work on and no black screens, with and without nvidia drivers already loaded.. I use mostly the 1.16218's, while i get new hardware detected.. so it might be cards not supported on older drivers, but.. still black screen with NO drivers for windows... all prior GeForce 8800's G80 and an older GeForce 8600 GT worked fine, no black screens, so what is different with new pci-e 2.0 or some enabled hdcp or whatever that could be causing this or.. is it possible I got bad cards.. perplexed because it sounds like all runnning.. and I can get into bios and boot into live cd of linux with NO problems and full video capability.
