My new toy

Unheard

Diamond Member
I go and pick it up Sunday. Got it for $1000 with a partial trade of an old Toyota I have. It's had a Chevy 305ci swapped into it. It has a 3" body lift and 3" shackles, and is running on 33 inchers.

Looks like a fun project. Not my favorite Jeep body style, but it is unusual and pretty good looking.

What plans do you have for it?

It's gonna be a part-time driver. I'll be doing a little bit of wheeling in it, but I'm really considering a full restoration on it. Not 100% sure yet though, have to wait til I get it, and have some fun with it before I decide. As far as being unusual, there were only ~8k of these built in 71.

Great find Unheard! I would reduce that 3" bodylift to 1" and lose the shackle lift entirely. I have never been a fan of shackle lifts. Maybe you can find some decent springs for cheap and lift it that way or just do a spring over axle conversion. A restoration is not out of the question either. Looks like you really have something to work with. Congrats on the new purchase. Is this your first Jeep?

Yep first Jeep for me. I have a two friends around here, who both own Jeeps and one is quite knowledgeable on the topic, so he's going to be helping out quite a bit with the project.

I agree on both counts.

I know a guy with a Commando that drives out west from Michigan every year to go wheeling.

Awesome, great find. Definetly worth $1K, although Im not sure what the car you traded was. I had a 91 Cherokee Sport. I loved it.

It was a 93 toyota pickup, 150k, w/ a blown head gasket. It sat in my yard for over 2 years, so it had lost all value to me, I just wanted it gone.
