So last week i took the plunge and bought the Dell Axim X50v when they had that deal going on (370 shipped). I waited until i received my 4 gig hitachi microdrive (today) to install programs for the axim.
Initially, I flashed the rom (to version A02).
After that, i installed the following programs/tweaks:
(1) Picard's GAPI tweak (for the video)
(2) OZVga for a "true" VGA setting on the Axim but found that to be too small and i didn't really need it/like it so i uninstalled it
(3) Tweak2k3 (for general tweaks)
(4) Resco Explorer (much better than the one that came with the axim)
(5) RepliGo (to view pdfs, etc.)
(6) Journal Bar (for weather, news, sports, all on the Today screen)
(7) Beta Player (freaking amazing for playing movies(!!!) and music)
(7) x50Mix to tweak the sound
All in all, this is an amazing pda (first one too). i can surf the net, watch movies, listen to music, all in glorious 640x480 or 480x640 resolution (can switch the display to landscape mode as well). I've attached some pictures, but the last two (with pics of the screen) came out really poorly. i dont know how to take proper pictures of that (im using a canon s400).
Enjoy! and if anyone has any questions on how to install or tweak their x50, i'd be glad to help to the best of my knowledge.

edit: Oh yea! I forgot to mention that I purchased a Sena leather case for the axim. you can obviously see it in the first couple of pictures. it fits very well and the reason i bought it is that i've heard it really protects the axim well. it is indeed well padded on the front and back, so i think this is generally true.
edit: Good pictures at mobile review: Here (since my pictures suck).
