Getting a New PC for Xmas or sometime after, I'd like to have some commentary from people that know what they are talking about, heres what I'm thinking so far

AMD 3800+
nForce 4 board (don't know which one yet, I'll see as more hit the market)
Radeon x850 XT PE (hopefully out around xmas or shortly after, I'm willing to wait)
OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 DDR PC-3200
WD 74gb Raptor 10000rpm
Aopen 16X Double Layer DVD+/- RW Black Burner

If anyone has any suggestions on stuff to change feel free, also with all this stuff, what kind of PSU am I going to be needing? Thx

because nvidia 6800GT > ati cards; the x850 which i dont think is reviewed yet but if it is, i'd still say the tendency has been lately that nvidia cards have been winning the graphics card battle

X800 XT PE > 6800 Gt IMO

Yea, I have enough money, anyhow I mainly wanted to know if the graphics card/ram were allright. I really don't see why going from an x850 xt to a 6800gt would be smart though. If I was going nvidia I'd go for a 6800ultra, not the next level down unless something has changed recently. Also does anyone know what type of PSU id be needing, or if the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream is a good case?

I'd look into something like an Antec Neopower power supply. If your budget allows for an x850, then I would go for that over the 6800GT.

Are WD Raptor Drives really worth it, I have a friend who swears by his but another who says they're not really worth it. If it not really worth it saving the extra money would be nice

No, they are not worth the 2-5 extra seconds it may crank out for you (imo). If money is no obj, why not though?

As far as the x800 xt, just stick with what you want. Both cards rock, adn the rig you are looking at is awesome. I would couple that system with a dell 2001fp; you'll be a happy, happy man.

oh what the hell:

"I was going to buy a TT Tsunami until I saw a TT Tsunami and Wavemaster side by side in person at Microcenter. Let me tell you, the TT TSunami is a piece of plastic crap. The ONLY aluminum piece on the box is the front, which weighs 5 pounds and gets stuck on the 2nd plastc door if not locked. I was so unimpressed I bought the Wavemaster on the spot. The only advantage of the TT is the 120mm fans. But the Wavemaster is to Porsche as TT is to Ford when it comes to quality. BTW- the wavemaster is 100% ALL aluminum. The TT is all plastic except for the door. I found that a bit misleading before seeing it in person. Hope this helps "

i plan a similiar system, although i will use A64 3500+ 90nm . ocz 3200 el2 rev2, nf4, and either nv45 or the next ati pci-e cards

A64 3800 has an EXTREMELY bad price/perf ratio imho..no way...

Yea, I decided to downgrade to a 3500 instead of 3800 in favor of using the extra 2-3hunred on a new monitor. Thx again for the feedbac guys

I would agree with the switch from ati to geforce for one primary reason. the nforce4 sli boards should be available in the next month and only geforce vid cards support sli. if money is no issue then 2 6800 gts will blow away a single x850 xt pe.

alien42 makes an excellent point. No point getting an ATI card when SLI works only for GFCs. Also agreed on the 2x 6800 GTs. It'll make your friends jealous.

I would dump the Raptor in favor of a 300GB hard drive, but that's just me.

Stick with brand name PSUs. I am only saying this because everyone else says it. I've never ran into a problem with any of the power supplies in my systems, but I've usually stuck with Antec PSUs. Get one of those newfangled modular ones if you want. It doesn't save much clutter, but you won't have to sleeve your PSU (a pain in the ass).

And don't go light on the HSF setup: you'll be getting some very OCable RAM, so might as well.
