I have just built my new system(I dont have a lot of experience building new systems) any way I have a problem after putting together everything, I connect the power supply and press the power switch , the system turns on for less then a second i.e the fans spin only once then it dies, I then have to wait for a few seconds or replace the power cord in the back to try again giving me the same results.

I have an epox 9npa+SLI board where it flashes the post code FF for a little while before dying. The Processor is a 3500+ venice and the gfx card is a MSI 6800GT, I have all the apporiate connections made. I have one 80 GB WD SATA too.

I tried everything like removing each part like RAM CPU or GFX including the SATA drive but the same thing happens.

BTW I am using a Force velocoraptor (sp) 450 Watts PSU, its pretty good and heavy even though its a no name brand (pretty sleek too all black with gold and nice cabels) it cost me around 75$ ish.

PLEASE HELP me.

Does your motherboard's manual have translations for the code "FF"? That would at least tell you where the problem is.

The manual says it could be one of three things

1) BIOS chip inserted incorrectly
2) Bad Motherboard
3) Add-on card not properly inserted or its not working ( the add on card)

BTW it has a different code for the VGA card problems.

Also I searched the net for similar problems and it says that if its a bad board it stays on and displays the FF code while in my case it flashes very breifly.

I think MAYBE its the psu how do know I have the right one for my board.

man I am really bummed out, I saved for almost a year for this PC and its my first updrade in more than 5 years. currently using a 500 lower clocked to 475 mhz AMD k6-2, you know you have a problem when simple browsing becomes difficult with your PC :)

Sometimes the CMOS clearing jumper is shipped in the "clear CMOS" position and must be moved to the normal position for the system to run. Did you check that? If it is already in the proper position, try removing the motherboard battery and clearing the CMOS by temporarily moving the jumper to the clearing position.

Speaking of that, leave the case open to see if the CPU fan is spinning up at all. Some boards may shut down if they sense that the CPU fan is not working.

check for the motherboard being grounded to the case. Did you plus the extra power cable to your motherboard, like a 4 pins square one, if your motherboard has one?
