Well, I've finally decided to get rid of the ugly case I've been hauling around for years, and another few upgrades.

P4 3.2 / 800 FSB / 1.5 GB ram -cosair value (2.5/4/4/8) I think / New ABIT IC7 mobo / Zalman Heatsink (cooper fins spread with fan on the pci card thingy) Nvsilencer5.

Going to have Panaflo M1A 120 mm for the CPU, L1A for the front 120M intake and a Panaflo 80MM for the power Supply (380 Watts) and hook the nvsilencer to the Zalman fan control. 6800 with 16 pipes.

DVD burn/dvd-rom

All going into a new Antec Sonata.

Probably going to OC to 3.6ish / oc the 6800 to 380ish/850ish

And a barracuda 7200.7 160GB Hard Drive

Anything from my system that I could do to make sure its not lagging in any areas? I am trying to combine the showy/quiet/gaming system all into one :)

1) Intel & quiet don't mix too well.
2) An A64 will smoke that P4 at gaming.

lol - I'm not a hardcore gamer, I've just had good luck with intel and got really good deals on each piece of equipment, but yes, I'm aware of the AMD jockriders. AMD is fine, I just don't use it, no biggie. But otherwise, I don't see how my new setup is all that bad as they are saying. :)

And no, I'm not trying to get into a discussion if AMD / Intel which is better, luhh, please don't start that.

I just choose to use Wintel, that is all. Granted, if the bench marks for AMD have been whipping the Pentiums, then so be it, good for them, this is what I have got to work with in front of my right now. I'm in the military, and I've been devoting my time to learning more on the hardware side of 802.11/security and what not.

Well, I spent 12 years in the military. Its still no excuse to be stupid with what you buy. Sorry, you really need to read up more. Less money, less heat, more performance, what more could you want ?

lol, Intel isn't that bad, good lord people.

I paid 100 for the chip, and got the board for 70.
I was asking to maybe see where some bottlenecks where that I could free up besides the obvious one..

OK, your bottleneck is the cpu. And the Sonata is quiet UNLESS YOU HAVE A HOT CPU LIKE THE PRECOTT. Then its noisey (I know, I have 2) Quiet and Prescott and cool don't go together.

Again, sorry, but bad choice unlees you are stationed in Alaska.....

lol, cool... I hope you guys aren't that harsh on everything with intel :) I cannot see how you could beat two PowerEdge SC400's for 250 a pop with a 2.8 / 512mb / 80gb hd

So do you think I should go with a XP-120 Heatsink to try to help it out?

The biggest bottleneck by far is the CPU.

Most definitely. While you're at it, pop a 6k RPM fan on it. Then at idle, it may be as cool as a Winchester at 100% load (I'm not joking).

He said he wants a gaming system. He also said he wants it to be quiet.

This is the worst possible combination of current hardware for those objectives. That's why people are making the comments they are.

I won't make another obligatory AMD comment (you've heard it all already, and it's all fact--face it), but be advised that you'll significantly decrease performance on a P4 by running a non-dual channel memory configuration with a P4 (your 1.5GB would either be three matched capacity DIMMs or two unmatched capacity DIMMs, neither of which IIRC are capable of such operation).

So you want a nice loud space heater?

Intel isn't that bad. At least you can play games from 2001 while you sear a tenderloin on the heatsink.

I bet some was happy to sell thier hardware for $170 and thought "Score!!! Now I can buy that MSI - K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI"

Sounds pretty nice to me!

I have a 3.0 GHz P4 w/ Radeon 9600 Pro. It plays the latest games at 1024x768, plenty of fun. Can't do much AA though.

One of my coworkers just recently build a 3.4 GHz P4, 1 GB, 6600 GT and it's a gaming monster. I don't know the exact numbers, but maxed out HL2 looked and played awesome and almost-maxed out Doom3 ran great.

The rig you built sounds pretty sweet.

Good point! Yeah, you're really going to want to run 2x 512 MB or 2x 1 GB.

However, having more, but slower ram (3x 512 MB) might actually result in better performance than less, but faster ram (2x 512 MB). Real world testing will tell.

The cpu is the not a bottlemeck you morons...

Please climb out of his arse!@!!

I will commend him for buying this at an obvious good price if he please tells me hem got the northwood chip...northwoods run cooler then their prescott brother. Once can keep 3.5 to 3.6ghz cool with air and have no throttling issues with a decent aftermarket heatsink and fan....

other then that to each his own...If he likes intel that is fine....God! you play a game and you blasted if you dont buy AMD...You ppl are getting sad.....

I AM DISAPPOINTED IN QUITE A FEW OF YOU!!!! :|:confused::beer::)

There is nothing wrong with being a fan of intel at all. But trying to pass of delusions like they run Cool and Quiet? compared to AMD's will get you flamed.

Do you have a Abit IC7-G MAXII ADVANCE?

Takes agp video cards? What vid card do you have?

Like I said you guys are a bunch of punks...reread what he said and then tell me where he made any comparisons

You fvckers blind sided him from the get go

My systems was a 2.4c@3.5ghz on a Abit IC-7 with modded NB chipset. Yes the overall p4 system was louder then the one I have and a bit warmer, but what is the point??? Noise is in the eye of the beholder.....

I was Intel, now I am AMD. However I sure do not want to align myself with the rabid fans your are....
