Ok, built/building this for exactly $1200...all I need is a sound card, but in the process of finding one. So here's the specs w/o the sound card. I'm posting because I'm extremely excited, and I didn't think I'd ever have a system like this! Hey, I go to school FT and work two PT jobs, this is hella exciting for me! :D

Anyways, onto the specs:

A64 S939 3500+
MSI Neo 2 Plat
TT K8 Silent HSF
2x512MB PC4000
BBA X800XT PE
X-Connect 500W PSU
PC-60 Lian-Li Case
2x80GB Seagate Barracuda SATA
16x DVD-ROM (silver)
Floppy (silver)
*Then cross your fingers that I can get this SB Audigy 2 for $4 less then what he's asking!

Looks good, you'll have a good time with it :0. Why not try and save $40 somewhere and get a nec-3500 dvd burner instead of the dvd-rom. it'll burn cds, dvds, and play em both ...like maybe a little on the case (i know, it's only $80-90), or just use the onboard sound for now? Maybe drop it down to a x800 pro??

Well I bought the CPU/Mobo and the Video card from the same guy so got all three for $750 shipped. And wanted to go silver for my optical drives to match the case, couldn't find a decent DVD-/+RW in silver for a price I could swing. And with the sound, for some of my games, if you don't have a supported sound card, and something goes wrong, there will be no support because you don't have a supported sound card to play thier game.

NEC 16X Dual for 65$, seems like a fair price.

Why are you getting two 80gb hds? They're pretty cheap these days, and you can probably find deals with 200gb hds that are cheaper/gb.

Also with the soundcard, most diff sound card will play just about any game. So just because a game says it SUPPORTS an audigy2, does not mean a diff card won't actually play the game (this is all just a tactic by developers to get more $$ from Creative so that you'll buy their products). You might not get something like EAX unless you have an Audigy, but i honestly can't tell the difference.
