My new PS/2 mouse doesnt work!!??

Ive been using a serial mouse but now I got a ps2 mouse but after connectiong it nothing happens, it doesnt work. Ive tried restarts and looking in the BIOS but nothing has been of use. What can be the problem?? The cable? my motherboard is also pretty old .. from 1998 I guess.

The mouse itself is OK.. checked on another computer.

Any help appreciated.
