I upgraded my gpu from an 8800gt to a GTX 285. I decided, since my OCZ Powerstream 520W psu was 4 years old, to also upgrade it. I purchased a Corsair 850TX 850W psu.

Prior to the psu upgrade my monitor would go black if you plugged certain devices into the usb ports. It would also randomly go black when playing games. After reading different posts on various forums, I attributed the problem to Vista. A couple of posts brought up a possible psu issue, but I didn't think my psu at 520W, was under-powered.

Since the psu upgrade, these random issues have disappeared. Go figure! I am not complaining, just surprised.

This is why we always recommend quality PSUs to people. Glad you found out the easy way (versus blowing out your 520W and nuking half your components).

That Corsair 850W is shear overkill for your rig but nice anyway. (It's enough to power an overclocked i7 system with *two* GTX 295s - yes, for quadSLI!!)
