Well, I'm back to the forums after being away while we found another place to live. Just got my free 6 months promotional cable internet. The speed test at DSL Reports shows it at 9393 kbps, well above the 5mbit barrier. Is this gonna be fast enough? ;)

Welcome back :)

Good to see you post once again.
Congrats on the new place as well.

Welcome home! I mean, back. ;)

BTW, that's ridiculous amount of bandwidth...care sending some of that my way? The node I'm on in my neighborhood is overused...grr...

No way to post pics. I just ran it again, and now it's down to 6427, so some of my neighbors must have gotten home and loaded the node

What cable company gives those kinds of speeds, and 6 months free? I thought my Optimum Online was fast.

And AphexII what kind of connection is that with that insane upload?

The funny thing with cable is those scores mean absolutely nothing. IF you use a big provider like Cox, Comcast, ATT, whoever....they limit your actual download to 128-256. You can't actually download like 5mb a second :) IT's unfortunate but true. I quit using those download test. They say i can achieve 5mb, but Comcast has a cap. Fun

What happened is, the apts we moved into have a promo, where the apts pay for 6 mos free cable internet. Starstream.net is the ISP.

I downloaded a 696mb file at 533KB/sec today. I know it's fast. :D

What? ATT limits to 1500Kb down. All of my DL's run at ~180KB/s.

No. ATTBI caps at 1500kb not 1500KB.

The "b" is lower case. The "K" does not matter.

You telling ME this? :p I work for an ISP, bud. But, as a rule of thumb, you'll never see kBps. The "k" is kept as the same case as the "b".

Well I have a MSCS from a pretty good American University and the real reason is because "K" is supposed to be used with binary and "k" with decimal. Also when I worked at Sun they used Kbps for everything so I got into the habit of using that even if it may be technically incorrect.

...so? so do a lot of retards. are you one of them? according to your logic, i guess so?

i've always wondered why you bring this up over and over again and how it's supposed to have some great rhetoric that proves whatever your point is.

Optimum Online in NJ:

2002-10-10 22:44:39 EST: 3832 / 927
Your download speed : 3832467 bps, or 3832 kbps.
A 467.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 927500 bps, or 927 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

I got 4100 once but this is about average...
