Except most I have seen have never been opened!!!! The one I bid on was in sealed retail box....

Actually I've been seeing more Dell pulls and other OEM pulls lately. But there are Retail Box parts as well.

For the OP, Congratulations on your space heater purchase. With natural gas prices this winter, you will have an effective alternative to a conventional furnace :D

feel uncomfortable with him in this thread :(

hope you have "fun" with your purchase :)

i might get an xp-90 just to compare temps; but does anyone know if it comes w/ the socket775(t) mounts, or do you have to buy it seperate?

I hope you don't game because I retired my 2.8GHz P4 machine more than a year ago.

I bought it as a purely educational thing. I want to be able to speak truthfully about these cpu's, the motherboards, DDR2, etc... From my own experience, and not just reading up and taking somebodys word for it.

I might be mistaken but i saw versions of the xp90c selling: 1 without the mounts and 1 with them. But not sure as i saw it here (Slovakia)

Wow...you got a heck of a deal on that chip (and board too). I'm thinking about getting one (I've always been an AMD boy too). Through a special promotion by Intel for employees of certain retail locations, they're offering the Pentium D 820, the Intel D945PSN board, Windows XP Pro, and two Adobe programs for only $215...hard to pass that up ;) Hope I can be satisfied with my first Intel box for a while, lol.

LOL Great thread:) I love cheap high performance and you hit jackpot! But was a frekken $48 HSF really nessesary to hit 3.2?

(oh and BTW a 3800+ beats the 840XE in majority of benchmarks:D)

holy thread resurrection!

Zeb, bought that HSF for piece of mind w/ temps (it turns out the Sonic Tower I got does 44c idle, 56c load anyway). The board is the one that can't o/c. There's no vcore adjust, and i don't know anyone that owns this board (including reviewers) that got over 228fsb on any cpu!

Well, if you look at it short term, i got about 60% performance of a 3800+ at about 60% of the price ;). i still feel really bad using all this electricity... such horrible power usage/performance ratio really irks me...

Heh, seriously.

Well, the motherboard is dirt cheap AND it can use DDR + dual-core, what did you expect? I must say using that motherboard and buying the CPU off ebay is the only way I'd buy a D 820 (though I dont think I will, I'll just save my pennies for socket M2).

I wonder if you could sell that stuff for more than you paid putting you into a 165/asrock combo for same price?

Seriously you don't need a high-end HSF to OC.. I was 2460 with stock HSF before RMAing Asrock board....if you had something of value besides your sense of humor i'd send you board and CPU...cost only $363:)

Maybe ebay your combo for a profit then get what you really wanted?

yeah actually i was really considering doing that; there's a seller/store on ebay that's selling the same asrock hybrid board and a bare 820 as a combo for $279... i was thinking about doing that and then getting the opty 165

too much school right now, hopefully intel prices won't deflate (but maybe amd will! :D)
