Upgraded from:

AMD Thunderbird 1ghz ( 266 )
512 PC2100 DDR
MSI K7T266 Pro
Gainward GF3 ( OC to 225/510 )
Now running

Northwood 1.6A ( 1600 ) OC to 2.24 ghz ( 140 fsb )
Asus P4S333
256 PC2700 DDR ( will be getting another 256 stick soon )
Gainward GF3 ( OC to 225/510 )

I have tried the FSB at 145 but i get an error trying to start the Prime 95 torture test.

I have ran the torture test at 133 fsb for 9 hours and at 140 fsb 4-5 hours. No errors or crashes.

My ratio is set to 4:5 and everything else is set to auto ( voltage etc ). Will be tweaking with that soon to see if I can get a higher FSB.

Though I am very happy at 140. :D

BTW, i need a program to check my cpu temps. I can't get MBM 5 to configure correctly, asus probe is stuck at 40 C and Sandra does not have them. BTW, i am running AS2 and a Sunflower HSF.

My CPU temp under full load ( UD Cancer program running ) is 51 C !

Should go down as the AS2 sinks in more.

BTW, the chip is a Costa Rica

Nice job, I hope you enjoy it. I really enjoy my QUIET P4 Northwoodie rigs.

Nice o/c, I also am happy at 140, but my system is on a P4T-E with Rambus. I can get to 150 with no problem but my single sided ram is a little flakey at that speed on 4X.

I would have gone Rambus myself but I just didn't have enough cash at the moment.

I am happy with my new rig!

check the benchmarks but i think the system will be faster at 133 fsb 133 memory then at 140 fsb w/ 5:4 ratio memory speed.

i'm currently running my 1.6a @ 135 fsb 1:1 ratio. ya. my prime fails when i go higher than that too. i'm pretty sure it's the memory. i might get ram hs and see if it will go a little higer. it would probably be cheaper to sell this ram and get better ram. but i'm happy at 135 FSB. that's only a 35% oc. :)

Well I raised the Vcore on cpu to 1.600 and now can run the Torture test at 145 FSB! :D

Gonna try even higher sometime!

Hmm let me do some testing PlatinumGold!

BTW MBM5 seems to report that i am at 51C all of the time, doesn't seem right...

most of the northwood mb seem to have a problem w/ reporting temps.

also, i haven't tried raising vcore. i'm not going to bother. it seems to me raising vcore can add stress to the cpu and shorten lifespan. not worth it to me. :)

edit

also, when u do test, post the benchmarks. i'm curious to see if my "hunch" is correct.

Try the auto setting for memory...I actually got better scores then in the 4:5 ratio...

Also temp reading of asus probe is just fine...I wish ppl would quite bitchin and f^cking realise the first 50 times we discussed this that it doesn't strat reading temps until they pass 40c...period...learn it and live it....

Your temps are already equal to mine and I am at 1.775

I'm OK with a 140 fsb with no Vcore increase. That 1.6a is quiet and speedy, just the way I like it! I can throw bricks at my machine and it won't crash. And no more Via 4in1 updates too! :D

continuing from above....had to go do something...

I would bump of the voltage to like 1.65v and try 150fsb...if the temps stay mid 50's you are still fine...

Did you get that avc hsf from pcpowercooling.com???

Yes!

I might try sometime

And that 51C reading is probably wrong. That was from MBM5 ..

If i do a pc restart right after doing a full load on my pc currently, in the bios it is around 40 C

That's a bug in the Asus bios I think,My Asus P4B266-C is stuck at 40c in the bios no matter what,I load up motherboard probe & it's idling at 25c when the bios shows 40, so i would not trust the bios reading also.

i had it backwards. in my system my ram is limiting me, hence i can get fsb higher if i lower ram speed. on ur system ur cpu seems to be limiting ur oc. hence you can get ur ram faster than ur cpu. the question then is, could you increase fsb by getting better cooling for ur cpu?

You're good then, mine is stuck at 40C no matter what. :(

Hopefuly a new bios willl fix that. I have a P4B266-C , I almost got the sis but the intel chipset can handle higher fsb's so i hear.mine makes it to 150mhz easy.

These chips idle down fast so restarting and looking don't mean crap....

I can run 51c after 12 hours of prime hit stop and in about less then 1 minute it is back to 38-40c...

Why not usse the asus probe??? You think the mbm is reading some other sensor unlike the board??? It is more likely if mbm does not match bios it is incorrect...

Just hit my limit on OC

I pumped the vcore up 1.675 and FSB 155, would not boot up.

tried 1.700 and 150 FSB, would not boot up.

I see no opition to change the DDR voltage..

But i can boot up at 148 fsb and 1.625 ! Currently running that and Prime95 will start the torture test. Will run it all night tonight.

Had the Asus probe installed earlier and it was stuck at 40 C !

Installing PCMark currently

BTW, my 300 wat Power Supply and Costa Rica chip is probably holding me back ..

ddr voltage mod is a jumper just right of the dimm slots...boost that to 2.7v...

Also the asus probe is stuck on 40c until your temp is higher...

I can go into bios and my idle is like 37.5-38c, but into windows it reads 40c...ONce I start a app or prime95 that is cpu intensive it takes a few minutes then it starts climbing 41,42,43,44, and so on to 51c the highest I have seen on my stable 2.52ghz...

What is your PS? What is the amps on the 12v rail???
