I was looking for a 4 gig model of this player and some best buy i went to happpened to have it. THis is 4 gigs of flash, just like the nano, its a little thicker in all dimensions compare to the nano but has better battery life, and get this, can play videos. Unfortunatley you have to use Sandisks equipped conversion software, but i've done it to a view episodes of boondocks and a movie and it works! The screen is actually pretty nice for being so small. Unfortunately the conversion software requires quicktime, which is ironic since i returned my nano because I didn't want quicktime.

Anyway, you can dump songs straight on and play unlike the nano which was one of my major requirements. If some of you are looking for an ipod alternative you should look into this player.

Check Sandisk's website. They already have a firmware update.

I plan to get the e270 with 6GB of flash + micro memory card slot.

Amazing how they built an MP3 player that costs the exact same as a NANO. They should have tried to undercut apple.

bumping cause i just bought one too... it's pretty freakin sweet. I love that sandisk put four simple screws on the back, so it's easy to get inside and replace the battery (which doesn't kill the warantee either!) add fm radio, voice recording and FM RECORDING (!) and i think it's totally a nano killer.

That battery bit really makes it a Nano killer! That is Nano's "Achilles Heel."

Can you buy an extra battery for this SanDisk player? That really would make it sweet to carry a spare on a long trip.

Haven't found where to buy one yet, but i'm sure there are places, and i imagine that sandisk will start selling them soon considering that they list customer replaceable battery as a feature right on the box. (btw, battery life is rated at 20 hours... one review I read posted 22)

i did not like the wheel on this. it just didn't feel right. other than that, looks pretty solid. first thing in a long while that I would actually consider other than an ipod.

just sucks you have to use their conversion software.

only for video, which I personally don't plan on using much (i think that portable wideo is kind of ridiculous... maybe on a 6 or 7" screen, but on a 1.8"? no way.) But at least that is something they could change later in a firmware update... who knows... maybe they will.

I agree about the wheel... takes a little getting used to, but it's alright after a bit. I read a review of an early sample that said it, along with the rest of the buttons, were really flimsy. to me, all of the buttons are perfect, the wheel is slightly tight.

I've had this player a bit. Sorry to bump, but I didn't want to create another thread. First, videos are great on this thing. I keep a few on it, people really seem wowed but I do have a decent collection. PQ isn't really the best, but it's pretty good. I don't understand how Ipod users can dis the interface. My friend with an iPod wanted to add videos after seeing mine but has had all sorts of problems (I even linked him to the site for his unit which tells step-by-step how to do it). The unit doesn't play wma lossless, but it does do a conversion to something close (it might take a 25MB file and convert it to 22MB). I just rip my lossless down to conserve space.

I think the unit is weak output, I'd appreciate if someone had a recommendation for some different earphones in the $50 range. I didn't really like the idea of noise cancellation as I like to do things while I'm wearing it. Of course, less outward noise is a good thing. With my current headphones there's not a good enough sound from the lossless to justify the space. I use dBPowerAmp to convert to 90 WMA VBR right now but haven't really settled on the "best". With a good headet that decision will probably change.

Can you format this unit through explorer? I read you can format FAT32 but when I did I ended up with closer to 6GB free space and about 10 days later my first unit died (locked when refreshing database and I couldn't access it on the PC). I tried to reinstall the BIOS after I'd formatted. Wondering if there's something there...

EDIT: You can drag and drop with 320-kbps and less files, you just have to switch USB mode(MSC), but when I did it the unit would refresh database everytime I turned it off (in both USB modes). I keep the USB in the drag-and-drop mode but synch to WMP as when you do that it MTP mode it seems to take up a lot more space (saves the album covers as well).

its ok, but in pcworld they tested for harmonic distortion and frequency response and it came out last. the nano/creative were much better. place like cnet and such seem to report other audio glitches, suppoesdly there was a recall even:p

What's the rockbox firmware? I have an e260 and it is already a phenomenal device. What does the new firmware add that I may want to use it?
