I just got a new laptop from Compusa. It's an HP zv5000. It has a Pentium 4 3.06GHz processor, 256mb of RAM, ATI Radeon 9000 IGP, and Windows XP Home. It also has the Harmon/Kardon speakers. May I also add that it has built in wireless 802.11g, cd writer/dvd rom combo drive, floppy, 3 usb ports, and 1 PCMCIA slot. Also, the screen size is 15''

For the price of $699.

Though I am not a fan of Windows, I couldn't help but purchase it, because of the price. Couldnt resist! :) Compusa was having the sale, and I don't know if you can still get the laptop for this price.

I actually like it a lot. It's faster than I expected, even with the 256mb of RAM. But, today, I am off to buy another 512mb of RAM. What bothered me at first was that you cannot tap the trackpad to act as the click. I was used to this with my sisters laptop, but it doesnt bother me anymore.

I know there are a lot of people who dislike HP, but I love their products. I have always had good experiences with their products.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :)

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention, the laptop does get pretty hot, right at the bottom. There is a vent on the side where the heat comes out, but the bottom of the laptop gets hot. Not that it bothers me that much, but I know there are people who don't like their laptop getting very hot. This laptop doesn't get VERY hot, but maybe hot enough to where someone may dislike it.

the HP's should have the option to turn on the "tap to click" feature, control panel > Mouse Props. Give it a look, should be a touch pad tab in there or something close to that.

Got it. Thanks guys. There was a tab called "tapping" in the mouse control panels. All I had to do was check the box for enabling tapping. :)

I'm such a Windows n00b. :p

This is eerie. Just bought an emachines lappy friday. Was looking at this thread with my reg pc, and thought i would turn the lappy on to see if i could enable the tapping. There was a message waiting for me from emachines discussing this very issue.

Congrats! It will run hot - it has the regular P4 in it. All H-P and Compaq laptops now have an on/off switch for the touchpad - located just above the top edge of the pad - usually illuminated when ON.

I consider this a great feature - and is one of the main reasons I ordered a new H-P dv1000 customized.

I wish mine came with the on and off switch for the trackpad. :)

I had no idea that the regular P4's ran so hot. At least I learned something new. :)
I hardly know anything about PC hardware. :p
