Hi guys. I ran into the misfortune of my house getting broke into (fully insured). My dads gave me some cash for me to replace some of my stuff that was stolen (My Intel rig) . I have about £2000 to squirm. I have come up with the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ - £605.07

DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR - £140.94

BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express - £469.94

Kingston HyperX 1GB (2x512MB) DDR PC4000 - £272.48

Plextor PX-130A 16x50x DVD-ROM - £24.68

HP dvd640i Dual Layer 16x LightScribe DVD±RW ReWriter - £51.58

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 Plus NCQ 250GB ST3250823AS SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-020-SE) - £93.94

OCZ ModStream 520w ATX2.2 Power Supply (CA-017-OC) - £88.07

ThermalRight XP-120- £35.19

Akasa Clear UV Reactive Acrylic ATX Case - £93.94

About £1834

Any suggestions are welcome, powersupply ok ? should I go for 2gb of ram >?.

I game quite a bit but also done some multitasking, I got the SLI board so that I can pop in another 7800 when I want that bit more performance.

Suggestions and ideas are welcomed, I have about a month before I go ahead with it. Remember to add 150 for the cost of XP.

Why the 4600 when you can get the 4400? Why dfi when all you need to do is oc it a little? You do have an 11x multiplier. All you need is ram that can hit 250-260 and you have the max oc on air. Heck, even 240 can get you 2.64ghz. No raptor?

Sorry to hear about the break-in bud!!! Positive side is upgrading, right???

I like the power supply choice!!!

I wouldn't waste the money on the 7800 from reviews I saw....I would get a 6800GT or comparable ATI card for mid 300's and then get 2 1gb stocks of ram...

By the way what reviews did you look at??? I though other then some of the games the main ones seeme like not much of a change over SLI 6800's...I wasn't impressed....

<Suggestions and ideas are welcomed, I have about a month before I go ahead with it. Remember to add 150 for the cost of XP.>

WHY?? Just get a bottleg copy.....I think it is such a big POS it should be free!!!

I hate to sound like a little girl but Im a little scared of overclocking :) I know how to but if I screw it up

It's late here in the UK, so I'll leave this for the night crew or daytime U.S users to help out, Raptor maybe, which make ?

Get the 4400+ (less money, more cache) and it will easily clock to 2.4ghz or higher.

I don't see your monitor listed, but unless you've got a 24"-30" monitor, that video card is total overkill, you could save a bunch there and spend it on more ram and or better hard drives nicer case ect...

I would get 2gb of cheaper ram for the same price or cheaper, Overclocking ram on an A64 is a bragging rights thing, no real performance increase

*edit*

Sorry to hear about your lose:(

And don't worry about overclocking, its very easy and safe these days.
Don't be a girlieman:D

yeah I agree get the 4400+ and then buy the 1gb extra of ram..still screw paying for the OS!!!!

Edit: With the way I have been treated by buying a winxp home edition that I have to call and spend about 15 minutes on a phone getting a new key everytime I format (swap system, mobo, etc) even though I have a legit copy is enough...I will never buy another legit OS again as long as those fvckers treat me like that....Screw them...I need to learn Linux and hops MS collaspes....

Also the amount of time you spend updating Service packs and formating or repairing cause of backdoors left open by those morons for worms, viruses, etc they owe me several free OSes....That is just the way I look at it....

anandtechs review, a bootleg copy, whatever do you mean ;). I was thinkin I needed more ram but I can still remember the days when 64mb P133 was MASSIVE lol and 350 PII was stuff of raw power. Im not up for overclocking this gal, only towards the end of her life (3 years away).

If your scared of overclocking, why the dfi? They perform slower than most other nf4 mobos at stock speeds.
Also, why the ram? Your setup looks like your trying to overclock it.

Yeah he's helped me out loads, told me to buy a car but I think I'll keep on using my mums BMW 330i, and get a fast PC. This 2000 AXP has done me well, but its time to retire.

LOL!! Now I see why...the 7800 is worthless unless you run 1600x1200 settings...reviews of 1000 and 1200 resolutions performance is miniscule over the 6800's...

However nothing touches te 7800 as soon as it start running 2000 resolutions...

maybe I was not impressed cause I didn't read the AT article...ooooopppps

Yeah, if you have a really big monitor then the 7800GTX is the way to go. I also imagine as newer games tax video cards more at lower resolutions (look at BF2), there will be a bigger disparity between the 6800 and the 7800.

Yeah but I have a huge 21 inch monitor(not flat screen) which goes back a mile, so chances are i would exploit the higher resolutions. Everyone happy with my choice of CPU ?

Is that memory really worth £272?
I mean, given the very slight performance advantage it will give you over £100 stuff?

you will really want a 4400+. it will take just 10 mins, and maybe even no increase in stock voltage to get a 4800+

I agree clarky...you should hit 2.4ghz or 4800+ at stock vcore so there should be no worry of damage...

I would avoid HyperX with the DFI nF4 series board. I had pc3200 HyperX with my ultra-d, and I had to run it 9:10 for the board to boot, and even with the divider I couldn't OC at all. Also, I believe the XP-120 blocks the first 16x pcie slot on this board, which isn't good, because the 2nd 16x pcie slot runs at 4x if you have only a single card, IIRC. Just get the XP-90; it cools nearly as well but it is cheaper and it fits every board.

thats terrible.. You guys need a doberman or something... thieves don't like fast man stopping dogs they'll go to next victims house..

Anyway I would recommend

-X2 4400, more cache and cheaper and can OC to at least 4800 levels saving $500.

-Memory crucail ballistix.. rick solid and fast 2-2-2 timings even at high bandwidths

Rest looks good.. maybe save some with NEC DVD player and burners

Maybe a couple of TwinMOS BH5 PC3200 512MB sticks if you're not overclocking? (Plus, they'd probably go faster if you did decide to overclock)

Cheers for all your input. I'll post some bench's come mid july. Defo going with the 4800+ andthe 7800GFX ( I cant say no). Will change it to 2GB of ram as well.

Beats buying a new car, and anyway, rather drive my mums 330i then spend 2 grand on a carp car for moi to pick up ladies in.
