Ok i've just acquired my new Dell 9400, the specs are as follows:

Dell 9400

Intel Core Duo - 1.83Ghz 667FSB
1GB Dual channel RAM - 166Mhz (5-5-5-13)
945 Chipset (Not sure which one, could be GT etc)
nVidia 7800 GO PCI Express x16
17 inch screen @ 1920 x 1200

CPU-z Screenie

I have ran some benchmarks with my Yonah 1.83Ghz against my old Dothan 750 1.86Ghz laptop, super PI 1.4 and CrystalMark. Also there are some 3D Mark benchies for the Yonah. The comparison between my old laptop and my new laptop will show the performance from an equally clocked Dothan and Yonah, showing the difference in processor performance, which is quite impressive.

Super PI 1M

Dothan: 41.125s
Yonah: 33.328s
Yonah 2 instances: 37.610s / 37.297s

Super PI 8M:

Dothan: 08m 25.531s
Yonah: 06m 21.328s

Super PI 32M

Dothan: 40m 32.859s
Yonah: 31m 18.484s

Crystal Mark (ALU, FPU, MEM):

Dothan: 20228
Yonah: 40212

3D Mark scores for Yonah:

3DMark06: 2125
3DMark05: Pending
3DMark01: Pending

Aquamark Scores for Yonah:

Aquamark 3:

Is there any other benchmarks you would like me to run (and no im not running 12 hours prime :p)

Let me just add this laptop is absolutely AMAZING in games :D

I'm interested in how Yonah does in AutoGK. Clock for clock my Dothan was pretty close to a single core A64, so I would think your Yonah would be close to an Opty 165 @stock speeds.

I will certainly give it a go, i have the whole Lord of the Rings DVD collection so that shouldn?t be a problem :)

Do you still think your Opteron puts a hurtin' on it?

I think dual core in laptops is just awesome..

I just tried SuperPI 1M with a 1.7GHz Dothan laptop and it took 48secs to finish. I know that Intel's been traditionally better at SuperPI, but still that number is very impressive. 33secs with 1.83GHz! Wow!

33 seconds at 1.83 is impressive, considering I get 30seconds on my 2.8 Ghz opteron.

Does single core vs dual core make a difference tho in super pi?

it dose when you run two at once.
As well os is not eating as much cpu time per core.

I'm aware that u can run it with two instances per core, but I want to know if u run once instance of super Pi, does it only load 1 core or split the load between both? I would like to see the score from just one core.

Unfortunately not, although i wish i could. It's frustrating i like my OCing and having this brand new chip just sitting at stock, that just isnt't right :p

Lol one of the first things I did was check the BIOS for potential increase in anything. of course this is Dell so you couldn?t do anything except change the boot priority :( God damn it I wanna OC this chip, oh well.

I actually ran the 33s Super PI 1M run with affinity set to one core. If you look closely at the pic you should be able to see the task manager screenie with one core fully loaded, and half way through the graph you can see when it ended, to indicate it was ran on one core. :)

I ran Super PI 1M with no affinity and it produced the same score.

This week has been quite busy for me, but i will try and update with some more bench/results ASAP. I'll also have to get down to that LOTR AutoGK test aswell.

I've actually sold the 165 and its now gone, but i must say in real world usage of my dual core main rig and laptop. The 165 prevailed at stock in my eye's and at 2.6Ghz as i can remember it proper spanked it in performance :D. The thing is with the 165 i used my OCZ plat rev2's @ 289Mhz 2.5-4-4-7 with a 10k Raptor, and the RAM in the laptop is running with timings of 5-5-5-13 matched with a 5400rpm HDD, which is woeful in comparison.

But i must say i am very impressed with the performance it is tangible having two cores in a laptop, compared to the Dothan. I would have liked to see what this chip could do with decent RAM/RAM timings and a decent OC. I guess we'll have to wait for supported mobo?s and actual Yonah chips for sale, to see what it is truly capable of, I still wouldn?t bother with it though if anything i'd wait for Conroe/AM2

:)

Rich, that must be nice :)
I wish I could snag one of those chips, but it has no desktop support ATM. Would love to OC it some...

Have you tried CLockgen, or anything of that nature?

Very interesting nice find thanks, and what an OC with just 0.1v . This god damn DDR2 shenanigan really hinders performance, like my f'ing CAS of 5 what the hell :|. Imagine a Yonah running BH5 that would be sweet.

What i think is impressive is the size of that heatsink, 2.7Ghz with that is impressive.

Thanks, My favourite part is the LCD panel, it has that mirror like finish which makes images look crystal clear, and the blacks actually are black. There's a bit of blur in fast movement compared to my 19" 8ms TFT but i can live with that :D

I haven't tried clock gen, but now you mention it, ill have see what i can do.

I'll wait and see the OC results when you get your Yonah desktop :p

The chinese article shows oc'ed yonah holding up pretty well against FX60 and expresses surprise at the performance of a laptop part against the high-end desktop FX.

Nice confirmation of yonah's potential and merom's competitiveness, since merom is much faster than yonah.
