Well, I've done little else besides mess around with the new lappy and I must say I am quite impressed. The screen is very bright and sharp, The keyboard is very nice to the touch. My only real gripe is that there is no ridge between the touchpad and the sccroller part of the touchpad so I have slipped a few imes but that is mostly a nitpick. It jsut gave me 7567 3dmarks, nowhere near the top of the line, but not half bad for a mobile solution methinks. I also wish the speakers hada little bit better bass but again, this is a mobile computer and such things aren't the main focus of the unit.

I will post pics as soon as my new battery comes in for my digicam. If anyone would like to know some detailed information or specifics about the zt3000, just ask!

Hows the build quality feel? Lots of flex, worry about being extra fragile with it? Hows the keyboard feel? Thats one I'm looking at so its appreciated!

Build quality is very good. Im not afraid that I'm going to break it and it feels solid. The keyboard is nice too. I wouldnt say its IBM quality but its close. Get it, I dont think youll be disappointed.

I just got done playing with both and I would not hiesitate to say it is a far better laptop than the Inspiron 8600. Slightly smaller and lighter, I think it looks and feels better as well.

Wow I was about to pull the trigger on an 8600 too, any more specifics on how it bests it?

I wish I could give you real data you could look at but its mostly a personal preference. The touchpads buttons on thie 8600 are very mushy whilst the HP's are firm and feel good. The HP doesnt have the separate multimedia control buttons but no big deal. Another thing I did like about the dell is the onscreen volume control. When you use the volume up/down buttons on the HP it simply changes the volume without telling you where it is on the scale if that makes sense. How are you going to use your lappy? If you like when I get home later I can try to benchmark them both to give you some actual specs. Go down to your local Best Buy store to play with the zt3000 as well. Too bad Dell doesnt have a store :(

AngryPirate: Thanks for the information so far. I have taken a look at this laptop at the local store and it seems to be pretty nice. My question is how is the heat and noise level during both \browsing, word processor use and with gaming and DVDs?

Thanks for your time.

It gets warm but nothing that is outside the norm. As far as noise, while web surfing and the like its silent. The disc drive is pretty quiet, you can hear it but its far from what I would call distracting.
