my new gigabyte 7zx board - working great!

I just assembled my new system:

700 duron
7zx board/creative labs onboard sound
v3 3000 AGP
20 gig maxtor 7200rpm ata66
50x cdrom
sony 32x,8x,4x burner
96 mg pc100

This system is very stable and doesn`t get hot either. Board is very cool looking in blue. It just blows away my old 300mghz K6-2 setup I had before. Even the sound is pretty good too. Games just scream. I am very happy with this setup.

More ram (pc133) will be comming soon.

I give this board 2 thumbs up!

how much each of the items cost? could you lemme know? I am planning to put up a system too, and I am confused which mobo/cpu combination I must buy...

Buckeye:

I live in Canada so prices are very strange here.

700 mghz Duron cost me $140.00 cdn (included a serious heatsink&fan)
Gigabyte 7zx /w ct5880 cost me $200.00 cdn

everything else was borrowed from my old ss7 system.

You have done exactly what I am planning with the MSI Pro 2 ...which is on the way. I have in waiting the Antec KS282 case, the 650 Duron(unlocked)..the FOP32 fan/HS.
The Soyo 5EHM and K6-3 400 in this really neat Enlight case will give up memory, and the ATI 16 Mg. AGP, along with the 8.3 Maxtor 33. It will then be remade to be a better system for my sweetie.
Still have to get a PCI modem of some sort for the MSI, but that will come to.

I didn`t buy it to overclock it. I bought it for other reasons: stability, dual bios in case of boo-boos, CT5880 sound and I like having a free ISA slot.

I found the VIA hardware monitor buried on CD that came with this board. My cpu never goes above 36 C.

I think I will try some benchmarks using Sisandra and maybe ZD as well.

I had the 7zm, the smaller micro-atx brother of the 7zx, and it was a very nice board. And it bus oc'ed to 117mhz! It wasn't quite enough sped though, so I got a A7V. You can use the ez tune 3 to change the system bus while windows runs. 819mhz for pushing a button isn't bad.

People keep saying that the GA-7ZX isn't that good in overclocking.. why?

CAn someone suggest another board for me to use that is around the 119 price rang... aw, heck. The A7V is only another $15 bucks..

I might as well.

Yeah, Get an A7V, or KT7. Actually you may want to wait a couple of weeks for The DDR boards. There are several other boards out there now that should overclock well, too.

The Ga-7zx can't overclock well because it has no ability to change the clock multiplier of the processor. In effect, this limits you to about 110% of your processors OEM speed. This is because Athlon/Duron can only handle a bus speed up to about 110mhz. (double-pumped this translates to 220mhz bus for the processor)Many of us with A7V's,or KT7's are reaching the 1ghz area-about 166% of OEM speed.

So, look for a socket-a board that has multiplier adjustments, as well as bus speed adjustments.

For less expensive but good boards which DO overclock, look at Soltek, Soyo and the FIC AZ11E. Course for non-overclocking and really good stability, Gigabytes my # 1 choice.

Thanks all 3 of you for the tips on what motherboards to look for.

I am thinking that the motherboard is the one thing that I am going to be keeping for a long time, so I might as well invest. (unless a dual-duron mobo comes out that is overclockable.. ho boy, I will HAVE to get that..)

But I will consider those tips. thanks..

DaddyG: Do you know any of those model numbers for the mobos you mentioned?
