My new GeForce2 MX is slower than my old TNT2 - why?

I can't believe it! I just sold an older Slot1 motherboard that had a PIII coppermine 550e running at 800mhz and a Diamond V770 32meb TNT2 video card.

It was replaced with an Abit KT7 with a Thunderbird 700 (haven't overclocked it yet) and an Inno3D GeForce2 MX with TV outs.

After installing the 6.31 drivesr from Nvidia I ran 3DMark2000 and only got 2600! I used to get a tad higher than that with my old system. Now I realize that I'm only running at 700 right now and used to run at 800, but this GeForce2 MX should smoke my old TNT2!

I am running Win2000Professional. I did find a reference to the VIA 4in1 patch and ran that, but then 3DMark2000 crashed when I tried to run it after installing the patch (and rebooting.)

Got late and didn't mess with it after that.

Any ideas why I'm not getting MUCH better 3DMark2000 scores?

The Via 4 in 1 drivers should be installed first (clean install of OS is best)after the reboot I normally install the Nvidia drivers next, maybe you should try this option ,I also have a Via board(MSI K7T PRO) & Geforce2 MX on 900mhz T-bird,I can get close to 5000 without overclocking anything.

I'm not going to do a clean install, only as a last resort; I just spent about 5 hours doing a clean install of everything only a few weeks ago and am not up for it so soon... :D

But I'll try reinstalling the drivers again after having done the 4in1 VIA drivers.

Oh, I also just found an AMD reg patch for Win2000 users so will try that tonight too.

Are you getting 5000 scores in Win98 or Win2000?

Here's hte link to the patch: AMD Win2000 - AGP patch

I`m using Win98 OS1 ,since I`m a hardcore gamer ,yes make sure you install that AMD patch for Win2000 this should get you up & running full speed ,if not reinstall Via etc drivers.

Well Win2000 will serve as a bit of a bottleneck. What are your game frame rates like. Let's face it, those are the important things - what sort of frame rates are you getting in the games you play? Are they slower than your old TNT2?

Try some games. 3Dmark2000 is a funny old program ;) Your Quake 3 frame rates should be a fair bit higher - try running at 1024x768 at 32bit colour in a 3d shooter - I'm pretty certain it'll be faster than it was before :)

Good luck

Well I ran the patch for AMD - Win2000, reintalled the drivers and then re-ran 3DMark2000 and now my scores are 40% higher than with my old TNT2, and that 40% improvement is with a 100mhz less system. So that is more what I was expecting!
