try it in the progression: Em, Am add9, B7, Em. Sounds great, courtesy of Opeth's "Ending Credits"

Can you translate that for piano players? I understand Em, Am and B7 but not add9.

If I translate it directly, I think it'll be:

A (15 semitones below middle C)
A (3 seminotes below middle C)
B (1 semitone below middle C)
C (middle)
E (4 st above middle C).

I'll have to try this when I get home. I've never tried to play any part of that song.
I always love Opeth.

Thanks.

sorry, wasn't too sure about notation. Its just: don't play low e, then open, 7th fret, 5th fret, open, open.

I like a good old C played like this:

E|--3
B|--1
G|--0
D|--2
A|--3
E--x

That's just an A minor chord with the 9th thrown in... usually in jazz it's just written as A minor.

Just write it as Am9. Makes more sense and is more standard than "Add9." Pretty basic chord. The 3,7,9 of a chord really define the sound.

I believe that's a type of Cmaj 7, although I think its usually played x32000.
