Hi there guys.

I just recently replaced my old cd-rw drive with a DVD-RW - i bought me an MSI DR8-A2.

It's supposed to be able to burn at x8 speeds (both plus and minus media), but so far in nero i've only ever seen it achieve x4 burn speeds. The DVDs i'm burning to are rated as x4, but i've heard many ppl say that they will burn at x8 speeds with no problems.

I looked into a firmware update - funnily enough it looks as though the firmware my burner shipped with is actually newer than the ones available online, as silly as that sounds.

Anyways, i don't know much about DVD-RWs, but how do i make it write at x8 speeds?

Thanks - help appreciated as always :)

Well like i said, media is rated at x4, but i've read in many ppl's reviews of the DVDs i bought that although they're rated x4, they can burn at x8 in x8 DVD-RWs.

EDIT:- this will probably sound like a really dumb Q - apologies >>> how does a DVD-RW know what speed to burn at given the type of media inserted in it?

It reads information that was placed on the blank media when it was manufactured - what a concept :D
