My new Duron arrived today, unlocked!

I got my Duron 650 today and much to my delight, it was unlocked...YEAH! I got it from http://www.bzboyz.com/
I install it and my new K7 board tommorrow and mess with it this weekend.

What week is it? Mine came unlocked, too. It is a week 24. I can do 900@1.75 no problem but it's not as stable at 950@1.85. The temp starts getting close to 50C using a FOP32-1 at 950.

I think the earlier Durons like mine don't overclock as well as the later ones, and I honestly think the 600s overclock the best.

Where do you read the week on the chip?I hope I can get the same results, but hey...even 800 would be a blast..I am a newbie at this stuff.

Jac59 the week is the second line you can read on the chip, mine is AKAA0023EPEW thus week 23.

warning the print is very small, it will kill your eyes

sorry, i don't really know much about durons but i was thinking about getting a duron system, i thought that you had to connect the L1 bridges. How did they come unlocked already.

Fingers, the L1 bridges are not cut on some of the Durons, at least not for the people on this thread.

now, just a quick question for those of you have this fop38 installed on your durons.... can you tell me if the surface of the duron is actually *touching* the heatsink itself to the point where you do not see light in between the two surfaces if you look at it sideways?

i just did all the preliminary stuff tonight, installing mb, hd's/cdrw/floppy onto the bays, etc, but i havent installed the cpu or heatsink yet. now when i put the place the heatsink on top of the duron, i notice the little plastic feet on the duron surface leaves about an inch gap between the surface of the heatsink and the surface of the duron. is this similar to anyone else's experience or do i have to remove those little duron feet?

There is a small square 1/4" or so in the center of the Duron CPU that makes contact with the Heatsink.

yah, this little 1/4 square doesnt even come close to touching the heatsink surface at all.....

For those that are interested, Ixbt-Labs has started tracking the overclocking limits of the Duron. They have some weeks listed for 600, 650, 700.

Their conclusion is that ANY Duron from week 36 on will reach 1GHz.

I removed the rubber feet on my CPU,and I am making contact.So far I am able to my 650 to 800 , waiting for my new power supply to show up before I go much further.
