It's about time I get into something new. My last build was 4 years ago, and I've been asking plenty of questions on here about some of the newer tech. Here's what I finally decided & purchased.

1 INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6850 (BX80557E6850) 3.0GHZ EM64T DUAL CORE W/4MB CACHE 1333MHZ
1 ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP INTEL P35 CHIPSET ATX FORM FACTOR 2xPCI-E(X16)/2xPCI-E(X1)/3xPCI/4xDDR2 W/SATA2 RAID,DUAL LAN(Gb),1394,USB 2.0 & AUDIO
1 Black Antec Gun Metal ATX Mid Tower Computer Case P182
1 BFG BFGR88768GTXOCE GEFORCE 8800 GTX 768MB OC PCI-E DDR3 W/HDTV DVI
1 HITACHI 1TB 0A34915 SATA300 7200RPM 32MB
1 CRUCIAL BALLISTIX BL2KIT12864AA1065 2GB KIT (1GB x 2) MATCH PAIR PC28500 1066MHZ 5-5-5-15 240-PIN DDR2 DIMM W/HEAT SPREADER
2 LITE-ON LH-20A1L-06 20X SUPERALLWRITE SATA+LIGHTSCRIBE (Black)(Retail)
4 Scythe S-FLEX (SFF21D) 1200 RPM 120mm fans (Needed some extra)
1 Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU cooler
1 ARCTIC SILVER 5 PREMIUM SILVER THERMAL COMPOUND 3.5 GRAM
1 ENERMAX EGX850EWL GALAXY ATX 12V / EPS 12V 850W
1 18in Black FLOPPY cable, rounded (oooo, exciting)
1 NEC 1.44MB BLACK FLOPPY FD1231H-302 (Bare drive)

Thinking about this sound card, it's not out yet, but apparently Auzentech gets rave reviews.

3. single dvd burner
4. skip the midrange fan options. go for yate loons or Delta/Panaflo
5. PCPC Silencer 750
6. floppy is a dead technology.
7. shoulda gotten 1 x 150gb raptor, 4 x 320gb 7200.10. whats giong to happen when ur 1tb fails?

Excuse me, but I thought this was also for posting what your builds were not just looking for critiques. If a Mod tells me I'm wrong in doing so, that's fine.

Been doing my research in other forums, sorry my system does not meet your specifications. It's fine for me, and I know I'll enjoy it.

But to answer YOUR critiques.

1. Lots of people get E6850. FSB 1333MHz. I'll wait for 45nm process before I go quad.
2. Huh? If you mean the motherboard, Nothing wrong with the ASUS. Lots of folks use them and they appear to be great for overclock. The P5K mobo's are great.
3. Amazing how people get picky for a sub $40 item. If I copy CD's, which I do, I like the convenience. I also duplicate DVD's occasionally, and it's very useful.
5. Enermax supplies are fine, been using them for years. We're not exactly saying "Go for the $20 basement special it's fine and will last"
6. Nice to know. I don't know how long you've been an enthusiast, but I have hundreds of floppies laying around that on occasion I need to access. And for $7, you're going to complain about that?
7. You could say that about any of your drives. And you're putting a ton more heat in your case with FIVE drives? I back up my data and that's about it. If the drive fails, I get another. Not really a big problem for me.

TVisitor, I would have gone with an evga card as it looks like g90 might be out within 90 days and there step up program would be useful (if you care about moving to g90 that is), also depending on hwo long you plan on keeping the system (you said 4 years since your last build) a q6600 might have been the better buy.

Besides the mobo and going wayyyyy overkill on the power supply...the build looks like a good one to me

I've heard a lot of rumors about the G90, though I find that it seems I (and others) are always waiting for the next entity, and that really holds off a purchase. At some point, it's time to pull the trigger and THEN kick yourself for not waiting the next 3 months *laughs*

haha thats fine u can get whatever u want. u can also get a $300 dell or a $10k voodoo. but whats the point of posting here if you're going to bark back at our critiques?

1. yea u can get a fast dual core, but it wont perform much better than your average e6600. but a Q6600 will have ur pc running much faster when multitasking. Or time will tell in about 6-12 months

2. no just the gigabyte is cheaper, gets some crazy OC and stably high OC results. and integrated Wifi wont last you long once newer networking products come out.

3. 2 burners are useless. what program do u use that allows u to burn two discs at once on two different drives?

5. yea the enermax is a fine psu, except the PCPC/Silverstone 750 psu's are better built, and cheaper.

6. thats good to know u collect floppies, why not borrow a usb floppy drive or fine an old one lying around you place and use it to burn everything onto a single dvd for $1.

7. your hdd's heat wont be anything for u to worry about with those high end cpu/gpu parts. 1C increase in case temp isn't much to me. i'd take the better performance and reliability package anyday
