Well i just received my Dell ultrasharp 2405 the other day and am very pleased with it, but i hadent tried any games yet so today i decided to to try them out.

I am having trouble with my games. The whole system seems to freeze up on my after 30 mins of play, sometimes it happens after just 10 seconds, requiring me to do a system reboot.

The games i had trouble with were san andreas (which i could play for 30 mins) then i played earned in blood (could play for 30 mins, then lastly quake 4 (which only made it for 10 seconds), in all the cases i had changed the resolutions to 1600x1200. When quake 4 dies after 10 seconds at that resolution i restarted my system then stared the game switching the resolution down to 800x600 to see if maybe my graphics card was the culprit.... NOPE same thing happened after 10 seconds, the whole screen froze, requiring another system reboot.

Does anybody have any idea WTF is going on here?!?!

Some side info: MY LCD is using DVI and i have the desktop refresh rate set to 60mhz, im running a X850XT PE (PCIe) using omegadrivers (5.12) along with ATi tray tools (1.0.5.820) All the games i have ran i was using the (manual) fan control setting it to 100% so there wasent an overheating issue.

Im really not sure if this is a gpu driver issue, or if my X850 just dosent have enough juice but i thought id try here with you guys first. If i should be posting to a different kind of forum (lcd monitor/gaming forums) could you be nice enough to point me in the right direction. I just spent a ****** load of $$$ on this lcd and having this issue of mine really makes me mad but im hoping that the fix is an easy one.

Thnx. $$

I have the 2405 and it plays games flawlessly. I have a 7800GTX though. If it freezes up that fast I would suspect a video card overheat problem (even with fan control). I wonder if the Omegas are causing the problem because the monitor is simply a receiver of information. How about uninstalling the omega's completely and reinstalling them? Do the omegas come with a gpu temp gauge? A long shot, but is the 2405 recognized properly in Windows? If this is insulting I am sorry, I am simply throwing out ideas as they come to me.

NO, not insulting at all.

I have removed my omega 5.12's and installed the new omega 6.1's and they didnt do a thing to help.

I would look at the temp guage but when the screen freezes i have to rebot right then and there, cant tab out to get a reading.

And yes the monitor is recognized in windows, i even installed a driver from the dell cd.

Heres an update..... i have since my first post, now played COD2, medal of honor pac. assualt, and F.E.A.R., playing anywhere from 15-30 mins without a problem (that dosent mean there might not have been a problem if i had played the game longer) but as soon as i go back to Quake 4 (and i just updated it to version 1.5) it still crashes after 5-10 seconds (Grrrr....) so i dont think there is a heat issue with my card, i mean if it can handle COD2 and fear then......

Anyway, i have more games to test.

reinstall quake 4? Try using official ATI drivers? Reinstall latest chipset drivers? Overclocking at all?

Im going to reinstall quake and see what happens.

Pretty much everything worked just fine, NO problems until i hooked up this monitor. No other component was added.

Yeah, I would suggest NOT using the omega's unless you have a problem running the catalysts. The only thing I ever run Omega's on is my laptop, because the manufacturer refuses to ever update the driver, but for desktops, use it as a last resort. Also have you installed the latest Q4 patch, there is one that is pretty important out there if I remember correctly.

Ok i just rehooked my old samsung 21" crt, i kept the same settings that the dell was using (60mhz refresh, 1600x1200, all the same amount of eye candy as before) and i was able to play for over 30 mins and never had a single lock up, not even a hiccup.
