My new debit card looks like a fake.

The bank sent me a new debit card since my old one was expiring. The front doesn't have the raised lettering which every other card I have has.
At first I thought it was one of those sample cards they enclose with credit card offers. I had to look twice, til I realized it was real. It does have a holographic image on it, which I guess would make you tend to think it was real.

I hope other people are getting cards like these, otherwise I can see a store clerk thinking its a forgery.

Debit cards don't need the raised numbers as, AFAIK, they aren't ever used with the old imprint machines.

I know a lot of those visa/amex gift cards I've received do not have raised lettering. I've also gotten similar gift cards that DO have raised lettering. I guess it depends, but I've never had an issue with the flat lettered cards.

Regardless, my debit card has raised letters. That's all I care about.

sure they are. Happened to me when I bought my boots. Their CC machine was down, so they had to use the ol' knuckle buster. Brought back memories!

Or you know.. you can speak with authority that it's real when clerks act suspicious.

Is this what you're really worried about? Confidence fail.

Just moved our checking/savings account to another bank a couple of months ago and the new cards we got were the flat type. It was the first time I've ever seen this too.

They used to have raised lettering so they could be swiped on the manual machine and you got that carbon copy.

Hmm.. strange. I've never seen a flat-numbered card.

Oh an I've seen lots of legit cards that don't have the raised numbers. Most don't come from the US though.

I wish my cards didn't have raised lettering. It's a small thing, but whenever I get a new card, it looks all shiny and cool. Then slowly it's not so shiny anymore...saddens me.

But the raised numbers act as bumpers protecting the surface of your card.
