Upgrading from Athlon xp2500+, radeon 9800pro( recently stoped working well so downgraded to a 9550 which I had sitting around), 80+160 gb IDE drives, 512 mb ram.

I can't wait going to be playing some games on much higher res/effects, decoding/encoding lots of different files. Checking to see how fast programs I have written will run.

Yeah, 9500 -> X1800XT is like going from a Pinto to a Rolls.

As will be the Athlon XP 2500+ -> E6300.

Congrats man.... that's a similar jump to what I am making.

I am upgrading for the first time in 4 years (I am a reformed upgrade addict from Celeron 266 to my current sys) and am very excited about the speed bump.

going from:
P4 2.26@2.6
512MB DDR
GF Ti4600 (died two months ago and replaced with GF 6200)
WD 80GB 7200rpm IDE

to:
C2D E6600 @ 3.4-3.6Ghz hopefully
2GB G.Skill 6400 DDRII
Radeon X1900GT
Raptor 74GB

I should notice the difference eh? 😀

mine is basically the same as yours but X1900XT + 320GB Seagate Drive

Congrats, that's a hell of a nice upgrade.

If you play BF2, I wish I could see the look on your face when you crank all the settings to maximum with that new system 🙂 I was drooling on my keyboard a few minutes after I upgraded from my athlon xp 1600 +Geforce3 and turned up BF2 all the way 🙂

Hey, same here man. My rig should hopefully be put together by the weekend as parts arrive.

Old System: AMD XP 2600+, Radeon 9700, 19" CRT from 1997
New system: Intel C2D E6600, X1900 crossfire, Dell 24" LCD

Funny. Lots of people with AMD XPxxxx chips here. Like me (XP1700+). I told myself I wouldn't upgrade until dual core chips got more reasonably priced. That day is here........now I just need to wait for a better selection of MBs to come out.
