My new computer and a Dell rant.

I am fanally putting together a new computer from scratch after going far too long on my old rig. Here's what I'm putting together:

Athlon XP 1700+ (1.47Ghz)
Epox 8KHAL
Crucial 512 MB DDR
MSI GF3 TI200 128MB w/VIVO
SB Live 5.1
SB V.92 56K
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Seagate 80 GB Barracuda IV HD
Cyberdrive 36x12x48 CD-RW

Not bad for less than $650 (bought the RAM long ago) and should hopefully keep me happy until after Christmas. I have everything in the case and ready to go except for the hard drive. Ordered it early last weak and the projected ship date is May 10th. This is killing me, I'm ready to start breaking this thing in. SHIP MY FREAKING HARD DRIVE DELL!

may 10th? it's only april 30th.. if you knew after you ordered it was going to take this long to get the hard drive, you should have gone elsewhere..


nice system btw. what kind of cooling are you going to use to overclock?

too bad you dont live near a frys. id just test out one of their drives.. install everything.. blah blah blah.. ghost it on cd.. and when you get your new drive in, return...

Even in the black hole of Off Topic, this kind of "advice" is strictly unacceptable. The very next time you're out of line, you'll get a minimum of a week off plus the week I should have given you right here and now!

I ordered the Barracuda specifically, didn't want to take a chance on the warranty or brand getting the Dell upgrade. It showed in stock when I ordered and it took them two days to e-mail me the delay notice. I'm pissed off about it now because I got everything else I was waiting on today.
