Planning on buying as follows, wondering if it's worth the wait on Conroe ? Seems from advance price listings from local retailors here in Toronto, it will cost me a fair deal more, $400-500 for a Conroe rig when they come out. Planning on just buying this:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 GHz - Socket AM2 - L2 512 KB

Asus M2N32-SLI-WF nForce590 SLI DDR2 PCI-E IDE SATAII RAID GigaLan 1394a S/PDIF 8Ch USB Wireless Module

OCZ OCZ2G8002GK 2GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (1GBx2) Gold GX XTC Dual Channel Kit

Antec P180 Aluminum Mid-Tower

Enermax Liberty 500W PS Support ATX/BTX Dual CPU Dual PCI-E SLI

ATI Radeon X1900 XT CrossFire Ready 512MB 256Bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI-E

Viewsonic VX2025WM 20" TFT 1680x1050 800:1 High contrast ratio 8ms Black Color Wide Screen

Seagate ST3320620AS Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 16MB 7200rpm SATA II (NCQ 3Gb/s)

LG GSA-H10N Dual Layer 16X DVD+/-RW 6x RAM Drive Black(OEM)

Should I bother waiting especially considering the increased cost ? And just when are the Conroe's and boards, and if I did wait, I think I'd go with an ATI chipset MB, coming out ?

Yes, wait. Even if the C2Ds aren't as cheap as they're supposed to be, AMD's CPUs will drop in price too.

How expensive can we expect C2D to be? 50% more a possibility?

I think only the X2's are getting price cuts, but not sure on that. Either way, you should wait until July 24th to see how things pan out. You might find an X2 in your price range all of a sudden.

Conroe prices will be competitive w/ AM2 prices. They've already posted prices for Conroe. I doubt you'll see price drop for AM2, only S939.

Thats very likely, most/all of the chips will be going to large OEMs. The retail CPU market isn't even a drop in the bucket to Intel and AMD compared to what the OEMs move.

I'm fairly sure that it's everything AM2, 939, 754. Of course retailers can still charge whatever they want so if no Core2s show up AM2 prices may stay higher (just speculation).

LeftfieldNotForgotten the P180 is not an AL case, its combination of AL, plastic, and steel. Personally I'm not particularly impressed by it, it also has/had quality issues.

Since you seem to be going high-end take a look at the Lian Li V1100. Its very similar in design to the P180 but ups the build quality to typical Lian Li levels.

I would also suggest the Zalman VF-900 for the 1900XT if noise is an issue for you. And I would take the Seasonic S12 over the Enermax.

What quality issues are you refering to besides the warping door (which is now fixed)? I have owned one since last July and haven't had any other problems.

Wait for Core 2 Duo. Price rise isn't very likely, if people have pre ordered that means that they have already paid up, logically the price at which it will be available to you should be less than preorder price.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight... a company is going to drop the price on a hot item at release just because people have pre-ordered.

Where do you come up with this crap?

If you do buy it make sure that memory will work with that motherboard. I know for a fact the m2n-e only goes up to 1.95v for memory. That memory needs like 2.1v or it wont work.

Everything but the Opterons, IIRC.
